The New Facelifted Volkswagen Golf Mk7.5 is Now Available For Booking In Malaysia

National Emission Test Centre (NETC) Officially Opens - The First Full Fledge Vehicle Emissions Test Facility in Malaysia

The National Emission Test Centre (NETC) was officially opened earlier today. This is the first full fledged vehicle emissions testing facility in Malaysia. The RM50 million centre, which is located in Rawang, includes real-time measurement of exhaust emission gases for passenger cars in accordance with UN Regulation 83 and 101 of which Malaysia is one of the first adopters in the South East Asian region. Also, in conjunction with the NETC launch, the launching of the Voluntary EEV Labelling Scheme also took place, followed by Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchanges between MAI and the Department of Environment (DOE) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Lexus Malaysia has officially launched its flagship premium luxury sedan, the fifth generation, 2018 Lexus LS. UMW Toyota Refreshes the Toyota Sienta for 2018 - Only One Variant is Offered, Down from Two

Toyota Sienta, the Toyota compact MPV which looks like an oversized basketball shoe or sneaker gets some changes for 2018. First introduced over in Malaysia in August of 2017, the Sienta was a breath of fresh air to some with its unique styling and looks. Whatever the styling was, the compact MPV was actually well designed with a lot of useful features. I personally found it quirky and nice to look at. Anyway, UMW Toyota have now decided that this year, there will be only one variant offered - the Sienta 1.5V.

Perodua Estimates 17.1% Total Market Share For February - Delivers A Total of 28,000 Myvi To Date From a Record 60,000 Bookings

Perodua has to date received a total of 60,000 bookings for their newest darling, the new Myvi. So far, the Malaysian compact car manufacturer (well, they still do not make anything cars larger than their Alza compact MPV) have managed to deliver approximately 28,000 Myvis which is close to 50% of the total number of  bookings since its launch November last year. This must be a record of sorts...

Road Safety: ASEAN NCAP Performs Development Test for Blind Spot Technology in Line With ASEAN NCAP 2017-2020 Protocol to Reduce Motorcycle Related Deaths

I managed to attend an event organised by The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) last week. It was the inaugural  Blind Spot Technology Development Test on cars that are currently on sale or available in the our market. According to ASEAN NCAP, which is an agency under MIROS (Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research,) the main objective of the test is to improve their capability in performing such a test in accordance with the ASEAN NCAP 2017-2020 protocol, which is where active technology is to be included under the Safety Assist domain in order to reduce motorcyclist fatalities which have the highest road fatalities in the ASEAN region.

I was over at the Renault Malaysia flagship showroom in Petaling Jaya over the weekend for their Chinese New Year celebrations and sales party. Amidst the new Renault cars on display, the flurry of events and other activities was a classic Renault on display - the Renault Caravelle Cabriolet. This is a rare classic here in Malaysia and it is always a pleasure to see such cars in somewhat pristine condition here. From the looks of it, this is a post 1964 1100cc Caravelle.

Motorsport: The 2018 BMW M4 DTM Gets Some Extensive Rework In Line With New DTM Technical Regulations

Preparations for the start of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM, German Touring Car Masters) is ongoing. The first race of 2018 will be at Hockenheim (GER) on 5th May 2018. Still quite a while as it is only the beginning of March. But the competing teams are hard at work in preparation to meet the new technical regulations for the cars. BMW Motorsport is one of them and they have been working on the BMW M4 DTM since winter of 2017. 

All-New 8th Generation Audi A6 Unveiled - Yes, It IS All New With A Familiar Look To It

Audi have unveiled the all-new 8th generation Audi A6 sedan. It is due to roll off the assembly line at Audi's Neckarsulm site and will launch on the German market in June 2018. It actually looks like a smaller A8, but with a little more design cues like the prominent character lines above the front and rear wheelarches. From the launch photos provided, I see a little more styling here to differentiate this new car from the other recently launched Audi A8 limousine and the smaller A4 model.

Naza Corporation Holdings and Groupe PSA Enter Into A JV Agreement - PSA Officially Enters Into Vehicle Production in ASEAN

Naza Corporation Holdings and Groupe PSA (better known as the people who manufacture Peugeot and Citroen) yesterday announced the signing of a share sale agreement and a joint venture agreement between them. The JV officially establishes future shared operations of the Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun, Kedah. This makes the plant the first manufacturing hub in ASEAN for Groupe PSA.

The honour of being the first written review in Motoring Malaysia falls to...the 2017/2018 Malaysian variant of the Hyundai Elantra Executive 2.0 sedan. These days, in the age where video reviews are picking up the need for a written review is still there. Of course, sometimes, when we only have two hands, multiple car launches, events, holidays and more distractions (like Yours Truly trying to make more talking head videos) have taken its toll - I got my hands on the car about the same time as the Hyundai Elantra Sport review which I did on YouTube!!! 

According to a Bosch Automotive Aftermarket Survey, Only One Percent of Women Drivers Can Troubleshoot Car Breakdowns Without Assistance - Especially Battery Failure

I have been informed that by the people at Bosch Automotive Aftermarket that they recently conducted a survey which reveals that only one percent of women indicated that they are able to troubleshoot their vehicles when they experience a breakdown. When it comes to the opposite sex,  48 48 percent of men can troubleshoot their vehicle problems. Even for simple things like car battery failure. This is somehow not surprising. Nor is it a sexist remark. Why? because it was concluded after the results of a survey and not plucked out of thin air. 

Shell Launches The FuelSave Diesel Euro 5 in Sarawak - Bintulu Gets It First Followed by Miri, Kuching & Sibu Next

Shell Malaysia has announced that Diesel vehicle owners in Sarawak will finally be getting Shell FuelSave Diesel Euro 5. It will be made available in stages in major cities in Sarawak and for now it is available at stations in Bintulu. Shell stations in Miri, Kuching, and Sibu will also be providing this better quality diesel in due course.

There it will showcase new brand presence and fascination for its luxury segment vehicles for the very first time in Malaysia. It will also display for the first time in South East Asia the BMW Concept 8 series. Yes, we are the first in the region to view what the upcoming flagship BMW 8 series will look like.
