We get to take it on a short off-road session in the 2025 Jaecoo J8 All Wheel Drive variant courtesy of OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia recently. The editor, enjoyed the short test drive session and basically explains how the J8 SUV performed. This J8 AWD actually makes it quite a decent drive for under RM200,000. A lot of decent off-road prowess for something essentially used in urban settings. This is very much a budget Range Rover for those wanting a SUV with some ability.

New car brand iCaur launches their first model in Malaysia - the iCAUR 03 SUV EV - Priced to go at RM119,800 onwards with early bird packages for the first few

A couple of days ago, on the 9th of Septermber, iCAUR Malaysia launched the iCAUR 03, its first model for Malaysia. The 03 is positioned as Malaysia’s first fully electric off- road capable SUV. The C-segment model is set to pioneer the adventure Battery EV (BEV) category by blending performance, safety, and versatility. This bit of news is a little bit late compared to others as I was a little occupied with things. It happens you know.

JETOUR Auto Malaysia officially starts local assembly of their Dashing and VT9 models in Tampoi, Johor

JETOUR Auto Malaysia has announced that they have officially started local assembly operations for its  SUV models, the JETOUR Dashing and the VT9, over at at their Malaysian assembly partners, Berjaya Assembly Sdn. Bhd. (B-Assembly) facility in Tampoi, Johor. It  marks a step forward the China brand's localisation strategy to take advantage of the current tax and pricing structure as well as ensuring the brand's long-term commitment to the Malaysian automotive market. 

Chery Tiggo Cross launched in Malaysia with Two variants - 1.5 Turbo and 1.5 CSH Hybrid and prices start at an affordable RM88,800 onwards

Chery Malaysia has launched the 2025 Chery TIGGO CROSS compact crossover SUV yesterday evening. It combines modern design, practical space and with advanced features that we've come to expect from Chery, and to some extent, all cars launched in 2025. Yes, we're spoiled. The compact, contemporary looking SUV will be sold in two variants, the 1.5 Turbo and a hybrid, 1.5 CSH Hybrid. These will cost Price RM 88,800 (WM) and RM 99,800 (WM) respectively before any insurance but with road tax.

Hyundai Motor Company recently announced the establishment of Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY), a newly formed local entity following the brand’s direct entry into the market. This move represents Hyundai’s evolution from a distributor-led model under Sime Darby Motors to a principal-led operational approach, which the brand hopes will be rooted in deeper market commitment, enhanced customer engagement, and a renewed focus on innovation and long-term growth.

Earlier today, the brand introduced three of their upcoming vehicles to the Malaysian media - the 2025 all-new Hyundai Santa Fe, (photo:right) the 2025 upgraded Hyundai Tucson (above, left) and the 2025 Hyundai Staria in the Prestige 7 Seater variant. 

C9 by Jaecoo Launched - Prices start at RM168,800 for a very well equipped sports SUV with over 250hp and 400 Nm torque

The C9 by JAECOO is now officially launched in Malaysia! Priced at RM168,800 for the 2WD variant and RM188,800 for the All-wheel drive, this offers Malaysian buyers a sports SUV, with adaptive ride control, a 2.0liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine with around 257hp 400Nm torque, a torque converter based 8 speed automatic for refinement (vs a dual clutch setup), option for all-wheel drive and lots of toys inside, for a price under RM200,000. This is actually amazing as it does not look ugly and has an interior that must have been benchmarked with a Mercedes-Benz CLS (typical China as they like doing this). A good wrap up to the year in terms of what's offered for us to buy.

SAIC MOTOR MALAYSIA ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL PRICING FOR THE NEW MG HS SUV STANDARD AND LUX VARIANTS - RM129,900 Onwards with an introductory offer of RM5,000

SAIC Motor Malaysia recently announced the official pricing for the all-new MG HS SUV now available in both Standard and Lux variants with attractive starting prices of RM129,900 and RM145,900 respectively. I have to say that this adds more variety to the Malaysian SUV segments in the below RM150K range and things will really heat up. And at the moment, I prefer either an ICE or internal combustion engines or hybrids over full electric for a purchase, and this hits the spot. Especially with a turbocharged petrol engine.

Yesterday, Monday, the 23rd of September 2024, PROTON, together with their technology partner, Geely, hosted a Driving Impression event for members of the media and other guests of which the 2025 Geely E5 battery EV was the subject matter, at the PROTON Test Track. The event provided an opportunity for us to experience the left-hand drive variant of the very recently launched Geely E5, which is the development sibling of the upcoming right hand drive Proton e.MAS 7. JAECOO Malaysia previews the upcoming 2025 OMODA C9 SUV - Coupe SUV styling, a very premium feeling cabin and a 2.0liter turbocharged 2wd or AWD variants estimated to be under RM200K, it is incredible

 

JAECOO Malaysia has just previewed the OMODA C9 (C9) SUV. This very premium looking and feeling SUV is planned to be launched in December of this year, and after looking at it at the preview today, this C9 should shake-up the D-segment SUV market with its engine performance, safety technology, creature comforts and signature competitive pricing strategy. JAECOO Malaysia aim to price even the full spec C9 under RM200,000, and I believe, many other brands that have a D segment SUV in and around the RM150,000 to RM225,000 price range will be sweating a little.

Proton e.MAS 7 Tour continues the Geely E5 world tour with a Malaysia wide tour of about 2,000km

Yesterday evening, PROTON, celebrated a significant milestone at its Centre of Excellence (COE) with the official launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 Tour. This journey marks the handover from the e-MAS 7's  base vehicle, the Geely Galaxy E5  EV SUV which has completed over 3,750km travelling from China, through Laos, Thailand and then to Malaysia. This has been a successful part of the E5's Long Test Drive World Tour, and for the Malaysian leg, the baton is passed to the Proton e.MAS 7 to embark on

an exciting new chapter of innovation and exploration across Malaysia.

As the nation’s first EV brand, it is fitting for Proton e.MAS to also be the first to undertake a nationwide tour with an EV on such a large scale, The Proton e.MAS 7 Tour aims to engage Malaysians and provide them with a unique opportunity to experience the vehicle first hand as it covers well over 2,000km across diverse terrains and landscapes ranging from coastal roads to mountainous regions, while showcasing its capabilities. So the best thing for us Malaysians is that the Geely E5's Malaysian leg gets to be handled by the Proton variant of the SUV.

 

The new locally assembled Mercedes-Benz GLC 350 e 4MATIC is now available - Priced at RM398,888 OTR before insurance

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has introduced the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, the GLC 350 e 4MATIC.which is assembled here in Pekan, Pahang, The new PHEV GLC was unveiled during the Malaysian launch of the new W214 E-Class sedan. The new variant of the GLC is a model that adds  to the GLC SUV range here and combines electrified efficiency with uncompromised performance. It is now available at RM 398,888 inclusive of 10% Sales Tax (for Peninsular Malaysia), which seems to be quite a nice figure as it is still under the RM400K threshold. More than that for a C-Class variant of the Mercedes-Benz SUV and it would be quite hard to swallow for a C-Class I figure. MBM must feel the same too to price it as such.

Proton X70 facelift officially launched in East Malaysia

The 2025 PROTON X70 has been launched in East Malaysia. This was a unique moment as it was the first time Proton has held a separate launch for the SUV model specific for its customers in Sabah and Sarawak. This event was held yesterday, the 28th of August 2024, following the official launch last 15th of August 2024.

Proton e.Mas to make appearance at this year's Malaysian National Day parade

The Proton e.MAS 7, aka the first ever fully battery electric powered Proton will be making its public appearance at Malaysia’s 67th National Day (if you're unaware, that's this 31st of August 2024). The brand’s first EV model was previewed to the media on 2 August, and will be launched at the end of the year. However, it will appear with a special camouflage motif representing the colours of the Jalur Gemilang, as part of a 25-car contingent featuring various Proton models. So still under some disguise and not showing its true colours yet.

Many, many moons after its debut on 12 December 2018, Proton’s first SUV has finally been facelifted and upgraded. The popular and now facelifted Proton X70 SUV, a C segment sized SUV, has been unveiled at the Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya. This facelift is about time, and adds a nicely revised exterior, new interior styling bits, new equipment and an upgraded ADAS 2 active safety technology too.  Hello folks! This is the latest preview and test drive together with our thoughts on the upcoming 2025 facelifted Proton X70 SUV. The popular Geely based SUV has finally been facelifted and it has a lot of new stuff inside as well as new looks on the outside. The exterior gets a new bonnet with power bulges, a reworked front end with new bumper and grille as well as new headlights. The rear gets a reworked bumper that makes it look wider.

National carmaker PROTON has announced today that they are now accepting pre-launch bookings for the highly anticipated facelifted 2025 PROTON X70. The latest upgraded version of  PROTON’s first SUV features a significantly refreshed exterior together with enhanced performance boosting both its aesthetic and driving appeal experience. But surprisingly, they have allowed us to show you folks the first official photos of the facelifted SUV, and it looks like a Jaguar SUV from some angles in my opinion. It looks fresh after so many years. 

5 Door Suzuki Jimny launched in Malaysia - 5 Colour variants and a price starting from RM199,950!!! Also Naza Eastern have expanded the Suzuki dealer network in Malaysia

Earlier today, Naza Eastern Motors Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Suzuki cars in Malaysia has launched the 5-door variant of the very popular Suzuki Jimny compact 4x4. It will be priced from RM199,950.00 onwards (before insurance or optional gear). 

First launched by Suzuki globally in early 2023, the 5 door variant marks a step forward in the Jimny model as this is the first ever 5 door Jimny to be produced. It has always been a 2/3 door compact SUV/4x4 and now, in its 4th generation gets 2 more doors so that one can easily get in and out of the rear seats with its new rear doors. Oh, it is also longer in wheelbase making it actually suitable for carrying people over longer distances too. But more of that later.

JAECOO Malaysia, has finally, after many moons, test drives, roadshows and other teasers have finally revealed, the complete specifications of the Malaysian specced, locally assembled, J7 SUV as well as something most car buyers want to know - it's price.... Aaaand that is a real stunner, the Jaecoo J7 is very reasonably priced (for Malaysia that is), which is from MYR138,800 onwards. I believe this is very good pricing for a more premium looking, and feeling SUV.
