Stellantis aims to set up a regional manufacturing hub for BEVs in the ASEAN region and push their “Built in ASEAN for ASEAN” roadmap

This could be a very good sign in terms of foreign direct investments into Malaysia and the South East Asian (ASEAN) region. On the 6th of November, Stellantis,,the automotive group that owns, notably Peugeot, Citroën, Ram, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Jeep® has announced its plans for new mobility solutions for the ASEAN region which include their aim to move forward with going fully electric (or any form of clean energy) in the future. They are aiming to bring its STLA Medium platform to the ASEAN region which was unveiled globally in June 2023. STLA Medium is a global BEV-by-design vehicle platform with state-of-the-art features including best-in-class range of 700 kilometers, energy efficiency, embedded power and charging power.

WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA) with Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) announces Completely Knocked Down (CKD) programme - RM60million+ investment to produce and market GAC vehicles in Malaysia



WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd (a Tan Chong related company), earlier today announced a new Completely Knocked Down (CKD) programme with Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC). The programme, which WTCA stated that they will invest over RM60 million into this venture involves the manufacturing of the brand new GAC Motor GS3 compact SUV (in the B segment) as well as expanding its  presence throughout Malaysia. Expect to see a newly specced out CKD GS3 with a 1.5liter turbo direct injection petrol with a DCT gearbox here by the end of the year and on sale shortly after.

The 2020 Honda City (Which Isn't Sold Here Yet) Gets a 5 Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating


The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) recently crash tested the newly launched, in Thailand, latest (7th) generation Honda City. This is the third assessment that ASEAN NCAP performed on the model in which the first was conducted in 2012 whilst the second in 2014. But note these were the earlier generation models and ASEAN NCAP has new active safety categories added this time around.

Hyundai IONIQ, Toyota C-HR & Toyota Rush Awarded 5 Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Ratings - Announcement Held in Conjunction With the Opening of the MIROS Gallery



The ASEAN NCAP test programme continues where three cars were recently given the ASEAN NCAP 5 star rating for their crash test ratings. The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) performed its latest crash tests exercise for the second quarter of 2018 on three models sold within the ASEAN region. The three models which were tested on their crash- worthiness were the Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid (above), Toyota Rush and Toyota C-HR.

Naza Corporation Holdings and Groupe PSA Enter Into A JV Agreement - PSA Officially Enters Into Vehicle Production in ASEAN



Naza Corporation Holdings and Groupe PSA (better known as the people who manufacture Peugeot and Citroen) yesterday announced the signing of a share sale agreement and a joint venture agreement between them. The JV officially establishes future shared operations of the Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun, Kedah. This makes the plant the first manufacturing hub in ASEAN for Groupe PSA.

ASEAN NCAP – SAFER CARS FOR ASEAN REGION & ASEAN NCAP CHILD SAFETY DAY ON 11 NOVEMBER 2015

Just so you folks know, I've published the press release below for everyone's benefit.

To approach the child safety concerns, the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP), a body that gives ratings to vehicles with child occupant protection, will be organizing an ASEAN NCAP Child Safety Day. The event will be held on 11 November 2015 at Autoliv Hirotako Safety Sdn. Bhd. The objectives of the event are to promote the use of child restraint system (CRS) and to introduce the standards related to CRS to the general public. The highlight of the event will be a demonstration to evaluate the performance of child seat.

You will also find a somewhat details description on how the tests determine the safety standard of the cars tested.
