The new Toyota Vios Hybrid (HEV) is now available in Malaysia

This morning, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) officially launched the Toyota Vios HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) and Vios HEV GR Sport, which more importantly, comes together with the localisation of hybrid battery assembly at its Bukit Raja manufacturing facility. The combined initiative reflects the brand’s long-term commitment to making electrified mobility accessible, practical, and scalable for Malaysians. In other words, it allows the Toyota hybrids to be made more affordable to us here as it is locally assembled in certain models.

The Vios HEV is also available in a GR Sport (GR-S) version with sportier looks and enhanced performance. Both models are assembled locally and will be offered alongside the Vios 1.5G and Vios 1.5E, expanding the choices for the Vios, which has been among the bestselling models in the non-national segment since it was first launched over 20 years ago. The Vios HEV is priced from RM103,900, while the Vios HEV GR Sport starts from RM109,900 for Peninsular Malaysia, making it Toyota’s most accessible hybrid offering in the market.

The Toyota Fortuner and Innova Receives Upgrades and Enhancements For Malaysia - Prices for Fortuner, Innova & Hilux Also Announced

 UMW Toyota Motor, the official distributors of Toyota in Malaysia have announced slightly upgraded and / or enhanced specification for the Toyota Fortuner SUV and Innova MPV and Hilux Pick-up Truck. These slightly different specified models will be made available for booking from 3 September 2018 onwards, with the sales launch and deliveries to customers to take place later in September 2018.

Hyundai IONIQ, Toyota C-HR & Toyota Rush Awarded 5 Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Ratings - Announcement Held in Conjunction With the Opening of the MIROS Gallery

The ASEAN NCAP test programme continues where three cars were recently given the ASEAN NCAP 5 star rating for their crash test ratings. The New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) performed its latest crash tests exercise for the second quarter of 2018 on three models sold within the ASEAN region. The three models which were tested on their crash- worthiness were the Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid (above), Toyota Rush and Toyota C-HR.

Toyota Eco Youth Program 2018 is Launched - 11 Selected Schools to Come Up With Community Waste Management Solutions & Try Win Some Prizes Too

UMW Toyota Motor launched the 18th edition of Toyota Eco Youth Program 2018 last week. The annual CSR event organised by UMW Toyota is aimed at educating the participants, who are mainly secondary school students, on sustainable waste management practices. This time around, students from 11 selected schools will be trained on problem solving skills to address concerns on environment preservation. They will be presenting their completed projects in August of this year where the participating schools will be vying for cash prizes of RM10,000, RM7000 and RM5,000.

The first ever Vios Challenge season here in Malaysia recently concluded at the final races on the 24th and 25th of March 2018. It was a satisfying end to the one make series which can be said to be quite an effort for a car manufacturer. Whilst increasing the profile of the simple Toyota Vios by making it into a racing car, it is also a noble initiative by Toyota Malaysia to introduce grassroot racing to the general population. 

Toyota Announces Special Service Campaign Expansion For Some Toyota Vios, Corolla Altis and Alphard Sold In Malaysia

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), the official distributor of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia has announced an expansion of the Special Service Campaign (SSC) to replace the inflator modules of the front passenger side airbag to certain Toyota Vios, Corolla Altis and Alphard sold in Malaysia. A total of around 21,000 vehicles are involved in this service campaign. These are the above vehicles which were manufactured from Jan 2013 to Dec 2014 and sold by UMWT. This SSC is  another expansion of the earlier campaigns announced by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).

UMW Toyota Are Now Selling The Upgraded 2018 Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire MPVs

The officially brought in Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire variants have been upgraded for 2018. UMW Toyota Motor, authorised distributors for Toyota here in Malaysia have announced that both these popular Multi Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) have received upgrades and improvements to that they offer better value for those buying them. According to UMW Toyota, new specs include a new engine and transmission for the Alphard 3.5liter as well as upgraded active safety systems for both models. UMW Toyota Refreshes the Toyota Sienta for 2018 - Only One Variant is Offered, Down from Two

Toyota Sienta, the Toyota compact MPV which looks like an oversized basketball shoe or sneaker gets some changes for 2018. First introduced over in Malaysia in August of 2017, the Sienta was a breath of fresh air to some with its unique styling and looks. Whatever the styling was, the compact MPV was actually well designed with a lot of useful features. I personally found it quirky and nice to look at. Anyway, UMW Toyota have now decided that this year, there will be only one variant offered - the Sienta 1.5V.

UMW Toyota Launches the Hilux L-Edition - Luxury Spec in 2.8L & 2.4L 4x4 AT Forms

One of the more interesting 'give back to society' projects conducted by an automotive related company here in Malaysia is the Toyota Eco Youth competition. UMW Toyota Motor has organised Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) for the past 16 years with the aim of inculcating students in their teenage years on the importance of preserving the environment and putting in solutions that are environmentally sustainable. I found time to attend this year's award presentation ceremony and I have to say that it is a noble effort by UMW Toyota.
