Perodua Axia E returns as the most affordable new car in Malaysia, but it's actually still based on the previous generation car

Perodua earlier today launched the previous generation Axia E again. Basically the cheapest new car you can buy in Malaysia, the Axia E is targeted at the lower income group and comes with a price of RM22,000 before insurance. This is definitely the 'menu Rahmah' of the car industry folks. If you're familiar with the term 'Rahmah' here folks. Definitely the RM5 meal equivalent.

[UPDATE - Perodua has just informed us that they have discovered a few errors/inaccuracies in the 2019 Perodua Axia teaser spec sheet released to you on the morning of 22 August. They are as follows:

1. Incorrect - front corner sensors on all variants except E and G
Correct - front corner sensors are only available on SE and AV

2. Incorrect - G does not have electric side mirrors
Correct - G has electric side mirrors (electrically-adjustable but non-retractable)

3. Incorrect - GXtra, SE, AV and Style variants have automatic retractable electric side mirrors
Correct - GXtra, SE, AV and Style variants have retractable electric side mirrors that do not automatically fold once the engine is turned off (the driver folds the mirrors by pushing a button)

So take note as the photo of the brochure below is the now the new Brochure teaser spec sheet instead of the previous one which I have promptly removed.

Perodua is still playing cautiously even though they've had an amazing first half of 2018 in terms of sales results. The compact car maker is preparing to face many challenges in the second half (2H18) especially from increased demand currently due to the GST removal and with the end of the zero GST rebates together with the reintroduction of the SST in September 2018. However the company states that it is still maintaining its sales target of 209,000 units by end-2018.
