MALAYSIA AUTOMOTIVE INSTITUTE (MAI) Launches its Design Centre - A Product of the Malaysian Government, Perodua & Their Vendors

Today marks another milestone in the Malaysian Automotive Industry. The Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), has officially launched the MAI Design Centre in Rawang, Selangor. The centre is a collaboration between MAI, acting on behalf of the Government of Malaysia, and national car maker Perodua which come into this picture together with their vendors.

UMW Toyota Motor’s Pre-Owned Vehicle division will be rebranded as Toyota TopMark from this month onwards. According to UMW Toyota Motors, who are the official distributors of Toyota here, the move reflects the new focus on offering quality Toyota Certified Pre-Owned cars and Hybrid cars. The pre-owned vehicles division of UMW Toyota was established way back in 2000 and it has been one of the strengths of the company since then.

It is something that would be a memorable experience if you like viewing old, classic Volkswagen cars like the Beetle, Kombi and even the Karmann Ghia. And then, there are the sales bargains too.

This is a small bit of news that I'd like to share. It may have already been picked up by other local automotive websites but it is interesting in some way in terms of the automotive industry here in Malaysia. Perodua has sold 250,000 Axia compact city cars to date and counting since it was launched in 2014. And going strong. It could already be 255,000 by the time I finish typing this article.

New Mercedes-Benz MBSA Autohaus Officially Opens for Business in the Historical City of Melaka

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia continues its quest to enhance its customer touchpoints in Malaysia with the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz MBSA Autohaus in Melaka. This new, albeit temporary Autohaus is operated by dealer partners MBSA Autohaus Sdn Bhd. This Autohaus was completed with an investment of RM1.2 million and will be the only Mercedes-Benz Autohaus in Melaka. 

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Announces Field Fix Campaign for Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed, ASX Compact SUV & Pajero Sport

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced that there is a Field Fix Campaign for the Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed, ASX Compact SUV and the Pajero Sport. In not so many words, this is a recall notice to all owners of the vehicles mentioned to get their cars looked at and fixed. The Pajero Exceed needs a replacement of its airbag inflators (most likely caused by TAKATA), the ASX & Pajero Sport for a replacement of the tailgate gas strut and the ASX (below) again for the wiper motor casing.

This comes just a few weeks after the launch of the Tucson 1.6 Turbo GDI petrol variant and it somehow completes the engine variants of the Tucson here. We now get the 2.0 normally aspirated petrol, the 1.6 turbo petrol and this 2.0 turbo diesel version. Something from everyone at a lower price as now all Tucson variants sold in Malaysia come with the tax lowering Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) status.

A celebration of all things Volkswagen is coming to town. Well, coming to Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam on the 11th of August to the 13th of August 2017 to be exact. MICHELIN at the Scania Driver Competitions South East Asia 2016-2017

The Scania Driver Competitions South East Asia 2016-2017 concluded recently and we've still got some stuff to mentioned about it. The final round of the inaugural Scania Driver Competitions South East Asia 2016-2017 (SDC) was held recently at MAEPS, in Serdang and saw some stiff competition between 19 Scania truck and bus drivers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore. This is the first SDC that is truly regional as prior to this, it was only a Malaysia and Singapore affair. J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction Index for Mass Market Cars 2017 - Toyota is champion, Mitsubishi second and Mazda third, and Honda comes in last!

Okayyyyyyy.. J.D. Power, the well known impartial organisation that conduct customer satisfaction surveys have announced that Toyota is the best in customer service satisfaction for the second year running! This is followed by Mitsubishi and then Mazda with Honda, yes, Honda coming in last among the non-premium mass market passenger car makers in Malaysia. Congratulations is in order to all of the three for making their customers feel like the are very appreciated. Aside from that, let me just state again that Honda has come in last. Even Volkswagen is up by a whole lot from 2016.

BMW Group Malaysia Reports Record Sales Numbers for its BMW iPerformance (Electric Powered) vehicles in Malaysia.

2017 will be remembered as the time where hybrid and electric powered vehicles started making major inroads in terms of sales volumes here in Malaysia. The BMW Group Malaysia had recently announced its performance figures for their iPerformance vehicles for the first half of 2017 and they've registered and sold over 2,300 units of their hybrid and electric powered vehicles. These make up the BMW 330e, BMW X5 xDrive40e and the BMW 740Le (which was only recently launched a few months ago) up to the month of June 2017.

The all-new Kia Rio has been launched here in Malaysia. It is somehow quite surprising that the outgoing model still seemed fresh in terms of styling. But then you realise that the car was first launched in 2011 globally and it is because we only received the facelift model mid 2015. So two years later, we now get the all new fourth generation Rio. This time the car is still fresh from its unveiling late 2016. It is as fresh as how freshly baked bread could be.

Today, Ferrari kicks off its 70th Anniversary Celebrations here in Malaysia. Naza Italia, the official importer and distributor of Ferrari for Malaysia has announced that in line with the celebrations of the iconic brand held globally, the company will have a unique and special schedule of events over in Penang for Ferrari owners this coming weekend.
