Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Announces Field Fix Campaign for Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed, ASX Compact SUV & Pajero Sport

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced that there is a Field Fix Campaign for the Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed, ASX Compact SUV and the Pajero Sport. In not so many words, this is a recall notice to all owners of the vehicles mentioned to get their cars looked at and fixed. The Pajero Exceed needs a replacement of its airbag inflators (most likely caused by TAKATA), the ASX & Pajero Sport for a replacement of the tailgate gas strut and the ASX (below) again for the wiper motor casing.

According to MMM, there are 128 units of the Pajero Exceed officially brought in by MMM from 2010 to 2014. These are the ones on recall for the airbag inflators as they have been affected by the TAKATA airbag inflator fiasco that has plagued many vehicle manufacturers worldwide. The fault inflators may actually release metal shrapnel when it deploys in an accident and may injure or even kill the driver it is supposed to be trying to protect. So this is a serious issue which I hope all current owners of the Pajero Exceed in question would take note.

The other issue regarding the tail gate gas spring or strut involves the ASX from 2010-2015 and the Pajero Sport (above) from 2010 - 2016. The strut in question may fail due to insufficient anti-corrosion coating. A small matter which just requires a change of a part that basically holds up the tail-gate.

The final issue is the ASX's wiper motor. There may be possible water intrusion to the wiper motor causing it to fail due to rust in the long run.

Notices would be sent out to the affected owners. All of the above field fixes would be borne by MMM and all the owners need to do is bring their cars in for the fixes. Do head over to the nearest authorised MMM service centre or call them to make an appointment. Especially the Pajero Exceed owners as this one could be a life threatening issue.

MEDIA RELEASE

Field Fix Campaign for Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed Airbag Inflator

Kuala Lumpur, 8 August 2017 – Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official
distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles in Malaysia, has requested owners of 128 units
of Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed manufactured from 2010-2014 for the replacement of the
driver airbag inflators.

Some of the driver airbags may release metal fragments when deployed causing injuries
to the driver. This exercise is part of the Takata airbag recall campaign worldwide.
“Safety is our utmost priority thus MMM is taking this initiative to assure customer’s
safety and regrets the inconvenience caused to the affected customers. This effort is to
enable the replacement of the driver airbag inflator with improved inflators,” said
Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.

Separately, MMM will also be conducting two other field fixes. The first campaign
involves tailgate gas spring for ASX Compact SUV and Pajero Sport manufactured from
2010-2015 and 2010-2016 respectively. This exercise is necessary to replace the
defective gas spring due to insufficient anti-corrosion coating.

The other campaign is for the ASX Compact SUV Wiper Motor, whereby possible water
intrusion may result in corrosion to the internal parts of the wiper motor and cause it to
stop operating.

MMM will issue notification letters to all affected Mitsubishi owners and the full cost of
the replacement will be borne by the company.

MMM kindly request all affected customers to make an appointment at any of the
Mitsubishi Motors authorized service centres for the replacement of the above.
