The First Locally Assembled GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) rolls off its production line ahead - Now Open for booking and GWM Malaysia's Very Tantalising 4th Anniversary Offers

Today, GWM announced the rollout of the first Locally Assembled GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) rolls off its production line ahead of its projected November launch. Bookings for the GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV are now open nationwide, with an estimated selling price of below RM115,000. Customers are encouraged to visit their nearest authorised GWM dealership to secure their booking ahead of the official November launch, when final pricing, Malaysian-market specifications and ownership benefits will be announced.

GWM Malaysia has also announced brings its newest hybrid SUV closer to customers while celebrating four years of growth in Malaysia with special anniversary editions, exclusive year-end privileges and lucky draw rewards - Details of the offers are at the end of this article.

The 2027 model year GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV is now a step closer to its official Malaysian launch, following the rollout of its first locally assembled unit from the EP Manufacturing Bhd. (EPMB) plant in Melaka. Set to make its Malaysian debut this this month, GWM's newest compact hybrid SUV arrives as the brand celebrates its fourth anniversary under the theme "GROW WITH MALAYSIA: Together We Grow. Together We Go." With bookings open since 5 October 2026, anticipation continues to build ahead of its official launch.

Details of the  ORA 5 Hi2 HEV 

The ORA 5 Hi2 HEV SUV combines expressive crossover design, everyday practicality and GWM's Hi2 intelligent hybrid technology. Its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and electric motor deliver a combined 223 PS and 476 Nm of torque, paired with a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission for smooth, responsive performance. With fuel consumption as low as 4.4 litres per 100 km and a total driving range exceeding 1,100 km*, it offers efficiency and convenience for both daily commuting and longer journeys, without requiring external charging.

The GWM ORA 5 has also earned international recognition, receiving the Design of the Year award at the 2025 London Design Awards, becoming the first production car in the world to receive this distinction. It also received the Best Interior Design Award (Family Car) at TADA 2026, recognising its thoughtfully designed interior that combines comfort, intelligent functionality and practicality to meet the everyday needs of modern families. In addition, the GWM ORA 5 HEV achieved a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM title for the lowest fuel consumption driving to all directly administered municipalities in China by a hybrid electric powered production SUV, recording 3.74 litres per 100 km over 3,004 km.

 The local assembly rollout fulfils GWM Malaysia's local assembly commitment announced at the Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2026, expanding its locally assembled portfolio alongside the GWM HAVAL H6 HEV and GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV and HEV.

With more than 10,000 GWM vehicles assembled locally and over 1,100 Malaysia-assembled GWM WEY G9 units exported to Thailand and Indonesia, the GWM ORA 5 Hi2 HEV further strengthens Malaysia's role within GWM's regional manufacturing footprint.
