The Peugeot 5008 SUV is all new and it has just been launched for the Malaysian market by Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for the Peugeot brand here. The All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV takes over from its 5008 MPV predecessor. It was first unveiled at the end of 2016 with European sales beginning in Spring of 2017. What was previously a 7 seater Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV), it is now a large, uniquely styled C segment 7-seater SUV. Prices for this new SUV start at RM173,888 (before insurance) in Peninsular Malaysia. It will be sold in four colours Emerald Crystal, Amazonite Grey, Nera Black and Pearlescent White and it is currently on display in showrooms nationwide.
The launch event held recently was attended by Mr. Lionel Faugeres, General Director, ASEAN Operations, Groupe PSA, Mr Ysser Awan and Dato Samson Anand George, Group CEO, Automotive Group, Naza Corporation Holdings Sdn Bhd. This is the first major launch for a PSA group vehicle after the announcement that the group had entered into an arrangement with Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) as its latest push into the Southeast Asian markets.
Speaking at the launch event, Yasser Awan, CEO of Nasim Sdn Bhd, said, "The All-New 5008 truly stands out from its competitors, thanks to its versatility as an SUV and practicality of an MPV with its 7 seat configuration combining the best of both worlds.”
"We are positive the arrival of the All-New 5008 SUV will be the catalyst to ensure that Nasims sales target of 3,600 units in 2018 is achieved," said Dato Samson about the role the new 5008 SUV need to play in Peugeot's sales expansion here in Malaysia.
The All-New Peugeot 5008 SUV has been engineered with the best features and on-board experience by Peugeot, in a spacious and luxurious design. The overall size of the vehicle remains compact at 4,641mm long and 1,844mm wide, yet for a spacious C-segment vehicle. The 5008 SUV is built on PSA's Efficient Modular Platform (EMP2) and it has a curb weight of 1,385kg or 95 kg less than the 5008 MPV predecessor.
Keeping things standard in the local Peugeot line-up, you have the familiar, PSA group 1.6 liter 4 cylinder Turbo THP engine and boasts a fuel efficiency of 7.3 litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions as low as 133g/km. Coupled with the lighter body, the 5008 SUV is more economical and is also said to handle better.
The overall exterior styling is very contemporary and has that French flair to it. Everything seems to look nice and flowly on the ouside in terms of stylings. There are advanced Full LED headlamps with sequential scrolling indicators and a striking front facade with chrome inserts on the front wings that extend to the headlights, like the Peugeot HX1 concept car. The rear gets Peugeot's three claw tail lights as well as other singature stylings to set it apart from other people carrying SUVs. It sits on 18 inch wheels to finish it off.
As for the the interior, the Peugeot i-Cockpit® is the centerpiece. Now with all of the latest Peugeot styling cues, it puts the driver at centre stage and offers a high-end driving experience that both surprises and delights.There is an 8-inch Multifunction Colour infotainment system / touchscreen within easy reach, and a large 12.3-inch high-resolution Digital Head-Up Cluster Display that shows the speedometer, odometer, trip-computer, and other information.
The 5008 SUV is equipped with seven premium leather seats and it offers five different angles of inclination on the second row also (the previous 5008 MPV had only 2 angles). This middle row also features three-point ISOFIX anchor points and reconfiguration options at the passenger and loading compartments to optimise knee room for added comfort for its passengers.
The third row of two extra seats, can be folded down flat into the floor with the two covers of the boot floor forming a perfectly flat surface when folded down, and they can also be easily tucked away behind the third-row seats. Peugeot engineers had made the extra seats easily removable. At under 11kg and a single control make them easy to extract, they could easily be handled by a regular person.
Other conveniences includes power sockets, boot cover, blinds, aeroplane trays on the back of the first row seats, hooks, cup holders and 38 litres of storage space in total (distributed throughout the passenger compartment) for a much greater on-board experience. At 676 mm, in combination with a foldable front passenger seat, the 5008 SUV can provide from 1,060 litre space in 5-seat configuration or 2,042 litres with 2nd row folded flat allowing the All-New 5008 SUV to carry especially long loads of up to 3.20 metres.
The overall feel of the 5008 SUVs cabin is premium in nature. It feels very upmarket from the way it looks and if you conduct the touch and feel test. The plastics used are soft touch and even the harder bits feel good to the touch. The switchgear is also nicely weighted and the layout good. By now, we have gotten used to the Peugeot steering wheel layout where you have the instrument cluster located over the top rim of the steering wheel rather than having the need to look through it. Again, sitting in it feels very premium and the interior design game is pretty high in Peugeots of late.
As for safety equipment, there are Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and features like 6 safety airbags, Advanced Electronic Stability Program, a first-in-its-class Advanced Grip Control with 5 drive modes selection, Hill Assist Descent Control, Speed Limit Information, Driver Attention Alert and Lane Departure Warning. There is also Hill Assist Descent Control (HADC), which takes the vehicle safely down steep gradients of at least 5 degrees and has the ability to maintain a very low descent speed of 3 km/h, preserving safety and control in the most situations. The All-New 5008 SUV also has a five-star rating from EURO NCAP.
Other features include Android Auto, Apple Carplay and Mirrorlink connectivity, auto electric parking brake, automatic dual zone air-conditioning, reverse camera with 3 view settings, six speakers with 3D Arkamys sound staging system, driver seat lumbar and height adjustment and flexible 8-way electric driver seat with memory settings. It also has a motorised smart hands-free tailgate that opens and closes shut effortlessly when activated just with a simple gesture of placing your foot under the rear bumper. There is basically alot of kit when you purchase the 5008 SUV.
