Recently, MN Fuel Solutions Sdn. Bhd, a Malaysian based company had launched something called emulsified diesel under their own brand name which is Kleen Diesel. Now before we move on further, we should describe what emulsified diesel is as this is the first time Motoring-Malaysia has published anything about it and this could be the first time many of you non-technical, non-industry people have heard of such a diesel product.
Emulsified diesel was first used in Europe about two decades ago. Oil continuous or water-in-oil emulsified fuels are exemplified by diesel (or biodiesel blended fuels) and water emulsions or combinations (I suppose there is a stabiliser involved as water and oil do not mix). These emulsified fuels were recognized in Europe (France and Italy) and CEN workshop standard was established in or around 2004 (CWA 15145:2004). Other types of fuels have been emulsified contain between 5 and 30% water (by mass) in the overall fuel emulsion. So this is basically what emulsified diesel is. The main advantages to using emulsified fuels instead of the fuel itself are environmental and economic benefits. Addition of water to the diesel process decreases combustion temperatures and lowers NOx emissions.
According to what I've been told, emulsified fuels are urrently being consumed in major cities all around Europe as an emission abatement technology. So here in Malaysia, MN Fuel Solutions Sdn Bhd (MNFS), through its Research & Development partner have conducted R&D work for more than 8 years to study and design an emulsified diesel that is suitable for Malaysia market. The R&D work have recently concluded with the outcome of an emulsified diesel called Kleen Diesel™. Kleen Diesel™ is certified to European Standard for emulsified diesel. The folks of Kleen Diesel have stated that the product is certified to comply to the European Standard for Emulsified diesel and is capable to reduce emissions by up to 88%. This could be the first of its kind here in Malaysia.
You may be asking how the company had succeeded in sustaining their activities in R&D for almost a decade before launching a product. Well, to put it simply MN Fuel Solutions managed to procure grant money from the government. They were one of the technofund recipients of Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) development fund. I am glad to hear that the money didn't go to waste as they have actually managed to launch a fully fledged product that can be marketed and sold in Malaysia (and elsewhere).
MN Fuel Solutions took the challenge and conducted R&D work to study and design an emulsified diesel that is suitable for Malaysian market. The Kleen Diesel is an eco- friendly diesel, produced through high sheering homogenisation process of Diesel Euro 2M, RO Water and surfactant. They are now in the midst of marketing this emulsified diesel as a cheaper and greener alternative to normal pump-based diesel.
The current business focus for this product is on a Business to Business (B2) level, where MN Fuel Solutions can supply a minimum of 11,000 liters of Kleen Diesel to their clients who have their own skid tanks on site (this would obviously mean that these customers have a fleet of vehicles to run). However, they will also be venturing into the B2C (business to companies) market, where thety are working on partnering with oil producing companies to sell Kleen Diesel. This will take some time before it happens.
MN Fuel will be launching Kleen Diesel W10 (Exclusively for Transportation Sector), first commercialised in May 2017 and Kleen Diesel W20 (Exclusively for Mosquito Fogging Activities) which they launched in April 2018.
MN Fuel Solutions Sdn Bhd, Managing Director, Mr. Marizan Nor said, “Today the market is very competitive where consumers and industry players are always on the lookout for ways to reduce operations costs and embrace the green energy initiative. Our Kleen Diesel W10 series is the best solution for fleet owners or any industrial diesel consumers as it’s relatively cheaper than standard Diesel and at the same time users are helping the environment by reducing their emission by up to 88% without having to incur additional cost of replacing their fleets or perform modifications on their vehicle. The USP of the Kleen Diesel W20 series is it is exclusively produced for the fogging industry.”
“We’ve worked closely with various district health departments as well as the various municipal councils in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor in testing our products which is very synonymous to fogging activities to contain dengue cases in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to the minimum” Marizan continued on their new fogging fuel.
In addition to the products, MN Fuel Solutions are marketing the locally produced W20 (fogging activity fuel) series on the e-commerce website, Lazada. Consumers are able to purchase in 4 liters package and assured with 14 days warranty.
Commenting on the emulsified diesel products, Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) CEO, Dato’ Norhalim Yunus stated that, “I look forward to more entrepreneurs in Malaysia taking part in the challenge of the industry by conducting more R&D and also producing more solutions which will elevate the industry of Malaysia”.
In some ways this is interesting news due to the fact that there are Malaysian companies still pushing for innovation locally. It may be nothing new in Europe, but here in Malaysia, no one has actually pushed for the use of emulsified diesel. It could be something good as the fuel seems to be quite good for the environment in the first place.
According to MN Fuel Solutions, Kleen Diesel is proven to be superior as compared to normal diesel, with the following features:
Cheaper than Diesel (In terms of Market Price);
Proven to Reduce Emission;
Proven to Give More Mileage;
Proven to Prevent and Deter Illegal Diesel Trade;
No Modification Required on Vehicles;
Proven to Give Further Spraying Distance (For Fogging).
If you are interested, do not contact me okay. I am not an agent of the company or sell stuff nor do I have a workshop repairing cars. Motoring Malaysia is an independent observer of the Malaysian Automotive Industry most of the time. So contact MN Fuel Solutions at mnfuelsolutions@gmail.com.
