Naza Kia Malaysia, the official distributor of KIA vehicles in Malaysia, have revealed a new variant of their popular Kia Grand Carnival MPV, the Kia Grand Carnival 2.2D SX. It is priced at RM188,888 on-the- road without [updated-via Naza Kia] insurance and can now be ordered from all Kia showrooms in Malaysia. The introduction of this new top of the range SX variant means that the discontinuation of the previous range topper, the EX variant with immediate effect.
The SX variant will be on sale at all Naza KIA Malaysia authorised showrooms alongside the KX variant. The base model Carnival D has also been quietly dropped making the local Grand Carnival a two MPV lineup. It makes sense as Malaysians seem to like higher specced vehicles.
The Kia Grand Carnival is a spacious eight seater MPV which looks well built inside and out. This new SX variant gets some changes inside and outside too.
The outside gets larger wheels - 19-inch Chrome 'Sputtering' Type alloy wheels. This is an upgrade compared to the 18-inch wheels on the KX variant. The new Carnival SX also comes with wrap-around HID headlamps with Diamond Glitter Type Positioning Lamp and Auto Levelling System. The front Kia ‘tiger nose’ grille is slightly refreshed with Black High Glossy Mesh Type material placed for the contemporary modern look. It's a Kia, it has that very European look to its styling these days.
The Grand Carnival 2.2D SX variant’s interior is well-designed, fitted with high quality materials and up-to- date equipment and technology. Kia spent a lot of man-hours designing the cabin and it shows. One of their benchmark was coming up with an interior which mimics a private jet if I was not mistaken. It has quality plastics mixed with leather and a lot of equipment like the 8-inch audio/ infotainment system that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The drive also benefits from a a larger 7-inch TFT LCD Supervision Cluster. When compared to the previous KX variant, this new one sits flush within eye level in the driver’s domain to ensure that the driver is well informed and all controls are within reach.
There also is the Rear Entertainment System now comes with Dual Monitor screens with WiFi connectivity for a smooth and hassle-free journey even to those that sit at the rear. The Grand Carnival 2.2D SX is also equipped with a range of multimedia entertainment systems such as MP3 CD player with six speakers, USB and AUX-in connectivity for ease of use
The Carnival SX comes with other impressive specs which include 8-way power seats and a 4-way lumbar support for the driver’s seat. For the rear, with just a simple electronic switch, one can choose to configure the second and third row seats to carry passengers in comfort, or stow extra cargo for added convenience. The interior is flexible and one can reconfigure the second and third row seats with ease. There are useful storage compartments such as the second row center console tray are evidence of smart space utilization. These are only available in the SX variant.
Again, Naza Kia Malaysia have decided to fit more into this new variant for only a slight increase in price - the old EX was priced at RM185,888.
Other specifications that remain the same are the powertrain and drivetrain. The Grand Carnival 2.2D SX is available with a 2.2-litre CRDi turbocharged diesel engine which goes through a torque converter six-speed automatic transmission to the front wheels. The 2.2-litre CRDi engine produces 190 horsepower with 440 Nm of torque which makes it more than adequate for a people carrier.
Other safety features equipped in the Grand Carnival are its Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assist System, six airbags further enhancing passenger safety and HID headlamps with Daytime Running Lights. For parking assistance, it has front and rear parking sensors. It is also fitted with a tilting and telescopic steering wheel, foot parking brake and auto cruise control.
The Kia Grand Carnival SX is available in Four colours - Snow White Pearl, Aurora Black Pearl with the new Blackberry and an exclusive Silky Silver colour for the SX variant only.
