Scania officially launches the New Truck Generation with the Super drivetrains & engines, the New Bus Generation and their newest Driver Application

While already sold in Malaysia since mid 2023, Scania has officially launched the new Super truck (Super) based on the New Truck Generation platform and New Bus Generation (NBG). These new truck and bus feature powertrain and drive trains that deliver up to 8-9% more fuel economy on average together with a new and wide range of digital solutions like Driver App for drivers. These vehicles are also FAME-prepared up to B100 biofuel as standard to help reduce CO2 emissions of up to 80% while supporting the national economy and customers’ ESG goals. Scania Malaysia held a customer launch and test drive’ event at Bandar Malaysia last week which seem to popular with customers. We happened to attend the event and Scania Malaysia had signed various purchase agreements with customers, new and old, for vehicles too.

The 2024 Golf Fan Fest: Celebrate 50 Years of Golf

The celebration of everything Volkswagen Golf will take place on 24th August 2024, from 11am to 8pm at Sepang International Circuit. This is where and when Volkswagen Malaysia are aiming for a Malaysia Book of Records of biggest Golf gathering to date. So if you have no plans this weekend, have a Golf, are not playing golf (the sport) or you need an excuse to give your wife or husband that you don't want to go to that family gathering, the 2024 Golf Fan Fest is where you need to be.

Many, many moons after its debut on 12 December 2018, Proton’s first SUV has finally been facelifted and upgraded. The popular and now facelifted Proton X70 SUV, a C segment sized SUV, has been unveiled at the Marriott Hotel, Putrajaya. This facelift is about time, and adds a nicely revised exterior, new interior styling bits, new equipment and an upgraded ADAS 2 active safety technology too. But those that want added connectivity to their phone, the X70 is now the first Proton with Apply CarPlay and Android Auto to come with the car.

Federal Auto Group opens a new JAECOO dealership at Menara MBMR, Kuala Lumpur

Yesterday, the Federal Auto Group, a subsidiary of MBM Resources Berhad (who has a stake in Perodua and Daihatsu Malaysia directly aside from Federal Auto dealership brands), announced their latest strategic partnership. The group has opened a new Jaecoo dealership at Menara MBMR in Jalan Syed Putra, Kuala Lumpur.  Hello folks! This is the latest preview and test drive together with our thoughts on the upcoming 2025 facelifted Proton X70 SUV. The popular Geely based SUV has finally been facelifted and it has a lot of new stuff inside as well as new looks on the outside. The exterior gets a new bonnet with power bulges, a reworked front end with new bumper and grille as well as new headlights. The rear gets a reworked bumper that makes it look wider.

Proton e-Mas7 - Proton's first fully electric car revealed. To be launched later this year - Some thoughts

The folks at Proton has revealed their first ever fully electric car, the Proton e-MAS7. This is a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) based on Geely's Global Modular Architecture platform which from what we have seen is shared a whole lot with the Geely Galaxy E5 SUV Battery EV. The e-MAS moniker is Proton's brand name for their EVs and as you can see, since it's the e-Mas7, it is actually close to the size of the popular Proton X70 SUV.

National carmaker PROTON has announced today that they are now accepting pre-launch bookings for the highly anticipated facelifted 2025 PROTON X70. The latest upgraded version of  PROTON’s first SUV features a significantly refreshed exterior together with enhanced performance boosting both its aesthetic and driving appeal experience. But surprisingly, they have allowed us to show you folks the first official photos of the facelifted SUV, and it looks like a Jaguar SUV from some angles in my opinion. It looks fresh after so many years. 

GWM Malaysia boosts production, expected to launch first CKD model in second half of 2024

Great Wall Motor(GWM) has a long term business strategy, Actually any company that intends to have a long and properous life should have a long term strategy. In the case of GWM, their strategy is to make the brand global. They have four strategic pillars, which are Locally Built, Locally Operated, Locally Cultivated and Supply Chain Integrate. This is three Ls and a S? But whatever it is GWM states that this has resulted in a remarkable results of 62.59% year-on-year increase in global sales, which accounts for a very good figure of 201,500 units of overseas sales in the first half year of 2024 alone. So it is because of this, GWM Malaysia is confident with their plan to locally assemble their vehicles and launching different types of vehicles in 2024. 

Next in the pipeline is the Malaysian launch of the GWM HAVAL H6, which has been dubbed the 'Best-Selling SUV in China',  It is also set to be GWM’s first CKD (Completely Knocked Down) vehicle in Malaysia and is set for launch in the third quarter of 2024. This will also be GWM Malaysia’s first CKD product with EPMB, a Malaysian automotive investment holding company. 

Cycle & Carriage Signs Collaboration Agreement with Stellantis Malaysia, introduces PEUGEOT to its list of brands

Earlier today, I attended a press event where Cycle & Carriage, the very established, with over 125years of experience, automotive brand in Malaysia has entered into a partnershipwith Stellantis Malaysia to expand both parties’ market footprint in the country. It signifies a milestone in Cycle & Carriage's history as it prepares to retail brands under the Stellantis group while also supporting Stellantis Malaysia's multi-brand and multi-segment initiatives. They will start the ball rolling with Peugeot and have a sales outlets in Cheras and in Batu Caves with another one over in Georgetown, Penang to start the ball rolling.

The Volvo Trucks Advanced Driver Development Programme recently certified its first group of 20 graduates from the Bakri Royal Malaysian Police Technical College

Recently, the Volvo Trucks Advanced Driver Development Programme, certified its first group of 20 graduates from the Bakri Royal Malaysian Police Technical College. The programme, which focuses on enhancing driving skills, efficiency and safety, is a joint initiative by Volvo Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Volvo Trucks Malaysia), and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). The advanced driver programme is one of several initiatives developed under a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) entered into between Volvo Trucks Malaysia and MIROS on August 2023. The goal is to enhance drive road safety initiatives to reduce the number of road accidents, injuries, and fatalities in Malaysia.

MAN Malaysia aims for a comeback into Sarawak- The MAN Malaysia team visits Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu

MAN Trucks are steadily making inroads into being a popular brand within the prime mover segment here in Malaysia. So for their latest push into regaining market segments, MAN Malaysia have now set their sights in making a  comeback into Sarawak with a visit to customers who operate MAN vehicles in Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu.. From 2005 till 2013, nearly 190 MAN Trucks were sold by the appointed dealer in Sarawak and was quite an important market for MAN Trucks here with a large customer base . 

In Kuching, the MAN Malaysia team paid a courtesy call to a customer whose fleet consisted of MAN CLA medium/heavy duty trucks that unfortunately has been largely decommissioned after serving for over a decade.  One of the drivers who was assigned a MAN CLA shared his amazement at the impressive pulling power of the truck on hilly roads despite its tiny 6.8-litre engine (in truck terms, this is small).

Yesterday, Scania delivered its first double-decker coach fitted with Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) to Super Nice Express (Super Nice). The handover ceremony was attended by Ms. Joyce Antar, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia who handed the keys to Mr. Roy Chew, Chairman of Super Nice Group. The ceremony was witnessed by Guest-of-Honour YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, Malaysia (MOT).

Earlier today, Naza Eastern Motors Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Suzuki cars in Malaysia has launched the 5-door variant of the very popular Suzuki Jimny compact 4x4. It will be priced from RM199,950.00 onwards (before insurance or optional gear). 

First launched by Suzuki globally in early 2023, the 5 door variant marks a step forward in the Jimny model as this is the first ever 5 door Jimny to be produced. It has always been a 2/3 door compact SUV/4x4 and now, in its 4th generation gets 2 more doors so that one can easily get in and out of the rear seats with its new rear doors. Oh, it is also longer in wheelbase making it actually suitable for carrying people over longer distances too. But more of that later.

Yesterday (the 20th of July 2024), JuiceUP, a brand that has a fully integrated end-to-end EV charging management cloud solution with contactless payment capabilities, announced its seamless open payment solution system which is used for EV charging. The Tank 300 is a off-road specced out SUV rather than the recent launches of crossover urban roundabouts we have been seeing here. It is fully imported from China, hence the price but this is actually a capable off-roader, and not many of them have been offered in our market these days.

Harmony Auto opens its new BYD Dearlership at Hartamas Shopping Centre

 

This happened on the 27th of  June 2024. Harmony Auto, an automotive dealership group from China, had officially opened its first BYD outlet at Hartamas Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur.  The 3,230 square feet BYD outlet boasts a range of facilities designed to enhance its customer experience. The BYD partnership with Harmony Auto is part of a larger plan for the two Chinese companies to popularise new energy vehicles here as well in other markets globally.
