Scania delivers its first double-decker coach fitted with Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) in Malaysia to Super Nice Express - 4 units of the Scania K410EB6X2

Yesterday, Scania delivered its first double-decker coach fitted with Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) to Super Nice Express (Super Nice). The handover ceremony was attended by Ms. Joyce Antar, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia who handed the keys to Mr. Roy Chew, Chairman of Super Nice Group. The ceremony was witnessed by Guest-of-Honour YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, Malaysia (MOT).

The handover ceremony took place at Scania Malaysia, in Bukit Jelutong and was also witnessed by Mr Robert Lejon, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden, Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri, Director General of Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), and Dr. Wong Shaw Voon, Chairman of Malaysia Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).

“Scania’s double-deck chassis equipped with ADAS ensures that Super Nice continues to be at the forefront of technology. Our passengers will enjoy the best in safety, comfort, and reliability,” said Mr. Roy Chew. Super Nice has been a pioneer in the express bus industry here and have been one of the first to update their buses and coaches to have the latest in ADAS features. They have been running single decker Scania buses with ADAS prior to this round of buses and the new double-deck variants are their first Scania with the ADAS features (note, these aren't their only double-decked buses fitted with ADAS - they have a few more from another European maker.)

The latest addition to their fleet consists of four units of Scania K410EB6X2 double-deck coaches is equipped with Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB), two ADAS features that reduces the risk of accident on the road.

The two ADAS features work in conjunction with Electronic Braking System (EBS) and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) as well as Traction Control as standard safety features. Aside from that, the new coaches have a driver's area that offers excellent visibility and controls within easy reach for further safety and driveability. Additionally, Scania’s efficient gearbox with a seamless transmission, and very well damped front and rear suspension promises a comfortable passenger experience.

“Road safety can be enhanced in several ways; general knowledge, improvement in infrastructure, driver behaviour, vehicle specification and inspection, just to mention a few. Safety features developed to mainly support the driver to avoid an accident, but also minimise the traffic casualties in case of an accident. Therefore, I would like to applaud both Scania and Super Nice Express for the continued strong and sustainable partnership,” stated YB Anthony Loke.

YB Anthony also stated on the importance of road safety and the challenges faced by bus operators. These include the shortage of drivers as well as educating them and equipping them with vehicles that have built in ADAS features so that it would be less strenuous to drive such vehicles over long distances. Even Mr Chew stated that with ADAS equipped buses, their drivers are given more warning and can respond quicker in a situation.

Scania’s vision and mission in driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system with safer and smarter mobility is in line with the Malaysia Road Safety Plan 2022-2030, which targets a 50% reduction in the number of fatalities due to road accidents by the end of 2030.

“We are continuously developing our offering to meet current and future demands in each market where we are present. Safety is a part of Scania’s purpose to drive the shift towards a more sustainable transport system. We are driving the development and as road safety is high on the agenda in Malaysia, ADAS is an offering that is and continuous to be of importance for our market. Features that today are available from Scania have proven to be effective in reducing traffic accidents and casualties,” stated Joyce.

The four Scania coaches were purchased by Super Nice as a comprehensive all in one type of package. It comes with 2 years Inclusive Maintenance, 2 years Scania Assistance and 10 years Scania Fleet Management. Super Nice’s recent purchase is also supported with Scania’s Financial Services for an unmatched solution that is like no other, so everything is handled by Scania from financing to the maintenance packages for the buses.

“We understand the challenges of managing business especially when it comes to ensuring the best safety. That is why we designed our Financial Services to make it easier for Super Nice to own the best technology available from Scania,” stated Anson Phua, Country Manager, Scania Credit Malaysia, and Singapore.

Super Nice have been in a strong and sustainable partnership with Scania for more than 9 years. They are the first express coach operator in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia to sign an Ecolution partnership with Scania to reduce their carbon emissions. They were also the first to receive the single-deck coach with ADAS back in 2022. As of today, their Scania fleet has grown to a total of 27 units.

On a similiar note, the buses were completed by Terus Maju Services Sdn Bhd (TMS Bus) and features premium seating on the lower deck with a washroom and pantry and more seating on the upper deck.
