JAECOO Malaysia has just previewed the OMODA C9 (C9) SUV. This very premium looking and feeling SUV is planned to be launched in December of this year, and after looking at it at the preview today, this C9 should shake-up the D-segment SUV market with its engine performance, safety technology, creature comforts and signature competitive pricing strategy. JAECOO Malaysia aim to price even the full spec C9 under RM200,000, and I believe, many other brands that have a D segment SUV in and around the RM150,000 to RM225,000 price range will be sweating a little.

Earlier today, Chery Malaysia announced  support for Malaysian athletes who will be heading to the upcoming Olympic games in Paris next month.  CHERY Auto Malaysia Sdn Bhd, officially launched the CHERY Corporate Malaysia Factory in Shah Alam, Selangor. The new assembly plant will be the first in the ASEAN region to produce the soon to be launched premium off road SUV, the JAECOO J7 in Malaysia.  Aside from that piece of good news, CHERY Malaysia also state that they plan to use the facilities as a base to conduct Research and Development for their right-hand drive cars for brands under the CHERY group..

Chery International invited to discuss investment plan and development direction in Malaysia during Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's recent visit to China

At the recent visit by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to China, the executives of Chery International were invited to participate in a discussion with the Malaysian delegation. We were sent the official press release from Chery International on their invitation but not much details on what was discussed

Now from a Malaysian business perspective, it is hoped that his trip to China bears some fruit and more foreign direct investments would be the outcome. But this is the initial stage and Chery already has some exposure in Malaysia over the past two decades or so where they had been initially successful for a while under a local distributor but then faltered to a halt most likely due to the lack of interest when prices could not be kept low. Malaysian buyers at that point of time will only purchase other than the normal brands if the prices are right for them.
