New video alert! This is our impressions and opinions after Proton allowed us a go with the upcoming (as at upload) 2025 2026 Proton e.MAS 5 battery electric vehicle (BEV). Do note that the test drive was under strict embargo rules so they unfortunately had a non stickered eMAS 5 out beside the stickered one and only allowed us to show the stickered one. It made footage hard. So you will only see me babbling on about the car. But if you want to know my opinion, this is it.

This is based on the Geely Star Wish and it set to be priced between 60k - 80k Malaysian Ringgit.

A couple of days ago, on the 9th of Septermber, iCAUR Malaysia launched the iCAUR 03, its first model for Malaysia. The 03 is positioned as Malaysia’s first fully electric off- road capable SUV. The C-segment model is set to pioneer the adventure Battery EV (BEV) category by blending performance, safety, and versatility. This bit of news is a little bit late compared to others as I was a little occupied with things. It happens you know.

Stellantis Launches All Electric Leapmotor Brand in Malaysia

 Stellantis, who own Fiat, Chrysler, Peugeot, Jeep, Citroen, Alfa Romeo and Ram vehicle brands, and are the world’s fourth-largest automaker / leading mobility solutions provider has answered the call to help  accelerate Malaysia’s energy transition towards electrification by  introducing the Leapmotor brand in Malaysia. Leapmotor is a new all-electric brand under its portfolio of vehicle brands and is a brand with its roots from China. With the support of the Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Leapmotor is making its Southeast Asian debut with the launch of the Leapmotor C10 in Malaysia at the unveiling of the brand today. 

The Volvo EX30 is Now Available in 2 Plus and 1Twin Engine Ultra variant from RM188,888 onwards - Test Drive the compact EV SUV at KL Base from tomorrow until 29 September 2024

The Volvo EX30 has been launched for the Malaysian market. This is Volvo’s newest electric car and is a compact B segment luxury fully electric SUV. The EX30 is big on technology and safety and is the latest embodiment of Volvo’s vision to give people the freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way, with three variants starting at RM188,888 onwards and a range topping twin motor, very fast accelerating variants, it covers what most well heeled urban dwellers would want in a compact roundabout.

Yesterday, Monday, the 23rd of September 2024, PROTON, together with their technology partner, Geely, hosted a Driving Impression event for members of the media and other guests of which the 2025 Geely E5 battery EV was the subject matter, at the PROTON Test Track. The event provided an opportunity for us to experience the left-hand drive variant of the very recently launched Geely E5, which is the development sibling of the upcoming right hand drive Proton e.MAS 7. Proton e.MAS 7 Tour continues the Geely E5 world tour with a Malaysia wide tour of about 2,000km

Yesterday evening, PROTON, celebrated a significant milestone at its Centre of Excellence (COE) with the official launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 Tour. This journey marks the handover from the e-MAS 7's  base vehicle, the Geely Galaxy E5  EV SUV which has completed over 3,750km travelling from China, through Laos, Thailand and then to Malaysia. This has been a successful part of the E5's Long Test Drive World Tour, and for the Malaysian leg, the baton is passed to the Proton e.MAS 7 to embark on

an exciting new chapter of innovation and exploration across Malaysia.

As the nation’s first EV brand, it is fitting for Proton e.MAS to also be the first to undertake a nationwide tour with an EV on such a large scale, The Proton e.MAS 7 Tour aims to engage Malaysians and provide them with a unique opportunity to experience the vehicle first hand as it covers well over 2,000km across diverse terrains and landscapes ranging from coastal roads to mountainous regions, while showcasing its capabilities. So the best thing for us Malaysians is that the Geely E5's Malaysian leg gets to be handled by the Proton variant of the SUV.

 

smart Roadshow at Midvalley Southkey Mall, JB this weekend till Sunday 22th September 2024

 

If you are in or around JB this weekend, smart Malaysia has brought the smart Tour Brand Roadshow to the Southern region, over at Midvalley Southkey Mall in Johor Bahru. This event continues the newly launched here in Malaysia EV brand nationwide. This is their effort to showcase the innovative smart #1 and #3 offering a closer look at the future of electric mobility.

Proton e.Mas to make appearance at this year's Malaysian National Day parade

The Proton e.MAS 7, aka the first ever fully battery electric powered Proton will be making its public appearance at Malaysia’s 67th National Day (if you're unaware, that's this 31st of August 2024). The brand’s first EV model was previewed to the media on 2 August, and will be launched at the end of the year. However, it will appear with a special camouflage motif representing the colours of the Jalur Gemilang, as part of a 25-car contingent featuring various Proton models. So still under some disguise and not showing its true colours yet.

Proton e-Mas7 - Proton's first fully electric car revealed. To be launched later this year - Some thoughts

The folks at Proton has revealed their first ever fully electric car, the Proton e-MAS7. This is a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) based on Geely's Global Modular Architecture platform which from what we have seen is shared a whole lot with the Geely Galaxy E5 SUV Battery EV. The e-MAS moniker is Proton's brand name for their EVs and as you can see, since it's the e-Mas7, it is actually close to the size of the popular Proton X70 SUV.

The upgraded and refreshed 2024 Porsche Taycan EV sports sedan is now available in Malaysia

 Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), recently unveiled the new Porsche Taycan at the Porsche World Road Show (PWRS), Porsche's fully electric powered sports sedan is now available to order in Malaysia with prices starting from RM575,000.

e.MAS - Proton Cars new EV specific brand unveiled today

PROTON today officially revealed its new, EV specific sub-brand, e.MAS. The Proton e.MAS moniker is to be deployed on future EV (electric vehicle) models and is pronounced as the alphabet "e" combined with the word “mas” and not like the word 'emas' which stands for gold in tge Malay language.

smart Malaysia updates #1 EV pricing and opens booking of the upcoming #3

 

On the 21st of May 2024, smart Malaysia at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 unveiled the All-New smart #3 SUV Coupe and opened bookings for the lower rooflline, similar in size to the #1 EV crossover hatchback. They also announced new prices for two of the lower priced #1 variants. These now start at RM169,000 before any insurance, a welcome move in the hotly contested under RM200,000 premium EV segment. You can view both the smart #1 and the #3 at the autoshow at MAEPS, Serdang where it is ongoing till 26th May 2024.

Work in Progress, Perodua's first working EV prototype - the Myvi Conversion

On 21st May 2024, Perodua unveiled its first working electric vehicle (EV) prototype which they have officially named  as the Myvi Conversion. Unofficially, it seems that it should be called EMO-1, as we see that plastered on the doors of the concept car which was unveiled and displayed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (till the 26th of May). This would be the foundation on which the Malaysian compact car manufacturer intends to base its electrification technology on.

For those that aren't in the know, Stellantis is a global automotive leader and the world's fourth-largest automaker. It currently owns brands like Peugeot, Citroen, Jeep and Fiat to name a few. The automotive conglomerate is in Malaysia in this new form and have marked its debut at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024. This comes after the recent launch of the all-new PEUGEOT 408 less than a month ago. So now, the automaker continues its reintroduction into Malaysia (as a group) by showcasing a lineup of vehicles from three brands under the Stellantis’ brand portfolio at the Autoshow. These are PEUGEOT, Citroën and Leapmotor.

The All-New 2024 GAC AION Y Plus CBU (fully imported) is priced from RM119,800.00 onwards.

GWM ORA 07 Launched - The fastback styled four door coupe comes in 2 variants from RM169,888 onwards with a very good warranty package with can run up to 8 years.

 

GWM, short for Great Wall Motors, have launched their latest EV, the Ora 07 streamline four door 'coupe'. This what I would call a neo-retro styled four door coupe is priced at RM169,800 for the long range variant and RM189,800 for the performance variant. Both come with an attractive warranty package for both battery and powertrain for up to 8 years. The 07 offers another choice for Malaysians that want to test the waters and try out a premium feeling battery powered electric vehicle.
