The Mercedes-AMG G63 is officially on sale in Malaysia. Woohoo!

The Original. According to Mercedes-Benz. Actually so original because this is the same goodness to gracious G-Wagen that was conceived in 1979. What is even more amazing is that the people at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has decided to officially offer the stomping Mercedes-AMG G63 in Malaysia. So we officially get the original in one of its most monstrous form. Hats off to the people at MBM.

The specifications are below in the official press release which I have placed below. As is the price - over RM1.181million. I only have to add that this has been one of my personal favourites for a very long time. It is that AMG V8 that makes this such a wonder. The burble from the side tailpipes, left and right. Like some American hot rod. But it isn't. And that squared off body that has been unchanged since 1979. So much character. So much heritage.

Usually you could see one (or two) over at the Naza Auto Mall in PJ. Now you can occasionally see one at the Mercedes-Benz showrooms too. But now every Mercedes-Benz model out there is now being offered by MBM. Full warranty too at a price not that far off from what the grey importers are asking for.

PRESS RELEASE
The original.

 The new Mercedes-AMG G 63 impresses with state-of- the-art drive technology,

expressive design and increased fuel economy.

 All this is largely attributable to the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine delivering an

output of 420 kW (571 hp) and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic

transmission system.

 This enables the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in

just 5.4 seconds, with a new top speed of 210 km/h (electronically limited).

Mercedes-Benz today announces the availability of the Mercedes-AMG G-Class, the legendary icon that

continues to define the standards of the luxury-class cross country vehicle.

Since it was originally conceived in 1979, the G-Class has undergone an astounding process of evolution

as a vehicle to be used primarily in tough off-road terrain. Over the course of 33 years Mercedes-Benz

has refined what was initially a very practically-oriented off-road specialist by giving it high-class interior

and road-going qualities on a par with those of the premium saloons emanating from Stuttgart. The G-

Class today is the top model among luxury-class cross-country vehicles, and has provided the gene pool

for the other very successful SUVs built under the Mercedes-Benz brand.

With its AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 delivers an output of 420 kW (571

hp), capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in just 5.4 seconds. Its perfectly tuned AMG technology,

exciting AMG bodystyling and a sporty, luxurious interior makes this off-roader truly one-of- a-kind model

in the market.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is equipped as standard with an ECO start/stop function that reduces fuel

consumption and emissions by switching off the engine when the vehicle is at rest, e.g. in a traffic jam or

at traffic lights.

As is typical of the G-Class, the new models retain the familiar sturdy basis of body and ladder-type

frame, which still offers generous reserves to cope with the increased power. Also retained is the

unrivalled off-road performance with permanent all-wheel drive, low-range gearbox and three differential

locks that can be engaged/disengaged while on the move.

Its AMG chassis is equipped with special coil springs and shock absorbers to convert the power of the

engine into agile handling without compromising its off-road capability. The AMG high-performance

braking system with internally ventilated and perforated disc brakes provides excellent braking

performance. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission features AMG shift

paddles on the steering wheel and three driving modes with different accelerating and shifting

characteristics.

The standard suspension setup has been revised with optimised shock absorbers for improved control of

body movements and even greater on-road ride comfort. An adapted ESP ® setup makes for enhanced

driving dynamics together with increased driving stability and road safety. Optimisations to ASR and ABS

result in improved traction while shortening the stopping distance when braking.

New choice of colours

A new colour package is available for customers wishing to give their AMG G-Class an even more

personal look. There are exclusive exterior paint finishes in solar beam, tomato red, alien green, sunset

beam and galactic beam, available at an extra cost. The interior topstitching is colour-matched to the

paintwork.

New AMG EDITION 463 special model: visible dynamics

With the new EDITION 463 special model, Mercedes-AMG is giving the G-Class an impressive sporty

look. The exquisite interior specification includes a two-tone instrument panel, two-tone seats in high-

quality designo leather with side bolsters in carbon-look leather and contrasting topstitching, seat and

door centre panels in a diamond design, carbon-fibre trim and door pulls in nappa leather.

On the outside, a stainless steel underguard, AMG sport stripes along the sides, a protective-strip insert

in black aluminium look as well as exclusive 53.3 cm (21inch) forged wheels underscore both the

dynamics and exclusivity of the special model.
