Truck News: The Malaysian leg of UD Trucks Extra Mile Challenge 2017 has started - The search is on for a Malaysian winner to compete in the next stage

UD Trucks and Malaysian UD Trucks distributor Tan Chong Industrial Equipment (TCIE) have teamed up to organize the UD Trucks Extra Mile Challenge (UDEMC) drivers’ competition to find the best driver in Malaysia to participate in the UDEMC Final 2017 in Japan. This follows last year’s competition which saw Malaysian truck driver, Yuzairi Bin Ibrahim from ASAC Logistics Sdn Bhd (pictured below), representing the country in the global championship in Japan, where he victoriously clinched the top place after displacing winners from other countries.

Carlist.my, one of the more established automotive websites especially when it comes to searching for vehicles on line has been pretty aggressive in terms of marketing recently. Today I got to hear Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s sales performance for the first half of 2017. The automotive juggernaut basically recorded growth in the first half of 2017 was primarily driven by the locally produced line-up, namely the Mercedes-Benz C-, E-, and S-Class, with a total of 3,663 units sold.

New variants of the BMW 4 Series Coupé as well as the New BMW M4 Coupé have been officially launched today for the Malaysian market. Volvo car has announced that it will only be launching cars equipped with an electric motor from 2019. What this simply means is that all of its cars will be electrified, either fully electric, plug in hybrid or mild hybrid cars. There would be no more Volvo cars that will only have a combustion engine that burns fossil fuel. It will either be in hybrid form at the very most.

This is a motorcycle riding endurance competition across multiple terrain conditions to select one winner who will represent Malaysia as part of the South East Asian team at the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy competition in Mongolia next year.

Long Term Report: 2010 Peugeot 308 VTI - Seven Years and 143,000km Later..

Yesterday was the first time in over six and a half years I was handed the keys to the same 2010 Peugeot 308 VTI 1.6 automatic. This car belonged to a family member of mine and the owner and her family have been using it as their family car since 2010. It cost her somewhere in the region of RM100,000 and it has now over 143,000km on its clock. This is a one owner car and it has been maintained at the authorised service centre in Petaling Jaya.

PEUGEOT returns to the pick-up market with Africa as its main focus

Peugeot has unveiled the new PEUGEOT Pick Up. This unique vehicle by Peugeot was specially made with the African continent in mind.. This signals the return of PEUGEOT to the pick-up market within the African continent to accelerate the internationalization of the brand as well as Peugeot revisiting the brand's older models. It takes after the PEUGEOT 403 Camionnette-Bâchée of 1956, the PEUGEOT 404 Camionnette-Bâchée of 1967, and then the PEUGEOT 504 Pick-up which succeeded it until 2005.

The Fasting month of Ramadhan is a time where things slow down a bit. A lot actually. So I have had some time to ponder on things which are slightly trivial like the car above. Again the Mercedes-Benz W124 has popped into my head. First produced in the 1980s and continued till the mid to late 1990s the car is an icon of German engineering. It is also an icon of mine as it is the first premium sedan that I drove way back in the early 1990s.

Its the Hari Raya season again and everyone wants to head back to their hometown for some R&R and to meet up with their loved ones. It is also the time where many buy a new car to make that journey home a little more meaningful and a little more memorable. The guy with the new car always feels the proudest at the family home as his car is the most shiny among the lot. Of course it isn't easy forking out the cash to do so these days and sometimes, the new car may not be a new car but a used one. A slightly used one like the one in the photos herein.

But I must say that the used car company selling the car is surely very ambitious in its description.

Continental Tyres PJ Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTM) in partnership with Media Prima Radio Network recently conducted their bubur lambuk (a kind of porridge made only during the fasting month) giveaways for 3 weeks leading up to Hari Raya this year. DRB-HICOM Berhad (DRB-HICOM, the Group) today signed the Definitive Agreement for China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely) to take 49.9% equity in Malaysia’s first carmaker, PROTON Holdings Berhad (PROTON) for RM1 Billion. On the same day, the Group also sold its entire stake in Lotus Advance Technology Sdn Bhd to Geely and Etika Automotive Sdn Bhd. This is DRB-HICOM exiting the sports car business.

In case any of you have forgotten Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is continuing its popular “Polo P” project with new venues for participants in Klang Valley, and the northern and southern region of Peninsular Malaysia. The “Polo P” project was developed with the mission to educate and empower new drivers with the skills and knowledge to stay safe on the roads. Launched in March this year, the program had already garnered over 250 participants to-date, consisting of students from private tertiary institutions and young adults around Klang Valley. TWO YEAR OLD VIDEO SHOWING A VOLVO XC60 'AUTO BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE' HAS BEEN GOING VIRAL AGAIN - VOLVO HAS RESPONDED

Volvo Car Malaysia has been recently made aware that there is a video with the title “Volvo’s auto brake system fails at launching ceremony… MD paralysed” has been circulating (again) on a lot of Malaysian social media and messaging apps. They have reached out to us motoring media here and would like to reiterate that in the depicted incident the Volvo XC60 was equipped with City Safety, but it did not have the Pedestrian Detection functionality. This is a separate optional system and would have been needed to mitigate or avoid the car colliding with the two men. Furthermore, the incident happened in 2015 (in Costa Rica, Central America). A long time ago in terms of autonomous technology.

THE PROTON HARI RAYA SAFETY CAMPAIGN IS BACK AGAIN FOR 2017 WITH THE FREE 20-POINT SAFETY INSPECTION FOR PROTON CARS

This is a bit more news about how Malaysian car manufacturer Perodua is giving back to society and also the environment. The compact car manufacturer is taking another step in going green by introducing an Eco Park within its 500-acre campus as part of its commitment towards the environment. The planned Eco Park, which will be located at the centre of its main manufacturing facility will include a small farm which the company will use hydroponics to grow produce and a green rest area for the staff. This should also relief work stress of the staff too.

Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the facelifted Volvo V40 in T5 Inscription specification for the Malaysian market. This new model now comes with some updates to keep it contemporary. The most visible and noticeable update are the new Inscription front grille with larger Volvo 'Iron Mark' logo and the 'Thor's Hammer' headlights that takes after Volvo's 90 Series cars. This is the first major external revision to the looks of the V40 ever since it was first launched in 2012 (for the 2013 season).

Jaguar Land Rover has teamed up with the 'virtual' (when they first appeared) band Gorillaz ! Definitely that young vibe going on instead of ye olde fuddy duddy image of Jaguars of old. What they've done is use a new Gorillaz mixed reality app as an innovative recruitment tool to find fresh new talent in the field of programming. Why so? I have spotted another interesting car for sale. Really. This Proton Saga Iswara isn't interesting per se. Hari Raya holidays are just around the corner and just like any other festive season, the number of vehicles plying our roads is expected to increase. A decrease would never happen until we have a fantastic system of public transport or when no one has any kampung or village to return to. Highly unlikely so there will surely be an exodus of people out of large cities when this happens. So when this happens, do be aware that the roads you travel on may be used as wildlife crossings. This is especially so on rural roads and those like the ones crossing national parks like Taman Negara or the East-West Highway up north.

Volkswagen Shows Off the Sixth Generation Polo - Lots of Variants including the Polo GTI and a Natural Gas Engined Version too

This is it. The all-new Volkswagen Polo has been launched. It replaces the 5th generation version which has been around since 2009. That's a good eight years already and I suppose it is about time. The best thing about this launch is that Volkswagen has decided to launch the GTI variant from the outset too!
