UEM Edgenta Takes Delivery of Proton Cars

UEM Edgenta Berhad recently took delivery of 32 Proton cars consisting of the Proton Perdana and the Proton Persona. The cars will be used by UEM Edgenta's subsidiary companies, Edgenta PROPEL Berhad, which are infrastructure maintenance specialists, where they monitor and upkeep over 2,500km of roads in Malaysia.

Edgenta PROPEL is the country’s leading network management and infrastructure maintenance specialists with over 25 years of experience in the infrastructure maintenance management industry. It manages, maintains and monitors over 2,500 kilometres of expressways (a good example is the PLUS highways like the North South Highway), state as well as plantation roads in Malaysia.

The company had recently decided to undertake a fleet renewal programme which sees us replacing our current cars that are over 10 years old. The management is confident that they are able to achieve their objectives of round the clock maintenance of the highways and roads under their watch by continuing their use of Proton cars.
According to Dato' Azmir Merican, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Edgenta, the fleet renewal programme will be expanded to include other vehicles including the procurement of additional lorries and pick-up trucks before the end of 2018.

A mock key handing over ceremony took place at the PROTON Centre of Excellence recently. In attendance were Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON and Dato’ Azmir Merican, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Edgenta in the presence of Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Chairman of PROTON, who witnessed the momentous occasion.

UEM Edgenta have been using Proton cars since 2002. A total of 236 units of Proton cars have been purchased via their corporate fleet sales programme. This includes this purchase where the breakdown of the cars bought are 30 units of the Proton Persona and 2 units of the Proton Perdana.

This actual purchase is a good example of fleet sales which a car company does from time to time. This purchase most likely came with special incentives or discounts as the number of cars purchase is large. It's not just some association that would get discounts of incentives to purchase cars in large numbers.

"(The) Proton Persona has become one of our best-selling units since it was launched in 2016 for its great handling and excellent safety features, whilst the Perdana (above) is seen as a bold and stylish car. We appreciate the continuous support from UEM Edgenta and we shall provide our best services to them,” said CEO of PROTON, Dr Li.

“I believe trust is built because they have faith in the affordability, reliability and durability of Proton cars, which they have experienced over the years. A company car needs to be reliable yet easy to maintain, factors which are highly important for consideration before a company decides to purchase a car. These are the winning factors in our products apart from its great driveability. We hope the ongoing relationship will continue to spur more sales from UEM Edgenta in the future” he added.
