PROTON - Discounts Given To The Hokkien Association Not Extraordinary - I Agree As Many Dealerships Do That For Corporate, Bulk or Fleet Discounts

Recently there was some hoo-haa regarding PROTON Cars. The Chinese daily, Nanyang Siang Pau, recently published a story on the 18th of January 2018 highlighting a special promotion of around 10% per car for the Federation of Hokkien Association of Malaysia. Then some parties felt outraged that Proton, was now giving discounts to Chinese of Hokkien descent. People are so easily upset these days... until they forget that ALL car companies give special discounts to corporate sales, group purchases and fleet buyers.

PROTON, like all other outfits selling products actually give special discounts. It is common business practice that people who buy cars or even products in large amounts will be given discounts. According to PROTON, the special offer given to the Hokkien Association is a special corporate discount arrangement for fleet customers and it is not a special case situation at all.

In fact, Nanyang Siang Pau had also reported that, “PROTON always provide corporate/fleets sales promotion to corporate customers, associations, organizations, and institution (including media), therefore, Hokkien Federation is not the special case”.

PROTON actually has similar arrangements with various Malaysian cooperatives, associations, as well as major corporate organisations. Any cooperative, organisation and association that want to buy a certain volume of cars are also entitled to this corporate sales special arrangement, subject to terms and conditions between PROTON and the said parties. Which company wouldn't want bulk purchases?

Anyway, PROTON had stated that the Federation of Hokkien Association of Malaysia, approached them to discuss and show support to PROTON with a commitment to purchase. Since the association has a large number of members and employees, PROTON was able to custom make a special package that both parties have agreed upon. You see, if you want to state an opinion, it would be actually better if you said that the Hokkien association wants to buy PROTON cars in bulk because Geely, owned by people in the People's Republic of China, is now running PROTON. But, it wouldn't be sensational news wouldn't it?

How the heck can some of the people spinning stories fail to read that paragraph from Nanyang? ISMA, the Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia, a subversive Islamic group stated that this is racist. They also speculated that just because the new Chinese, CEO of Proton is of Hokkien descent, the local Hokkien association gets a discount. So easy. And I also think the online 'news' portal Malay***K**i harped on this issue by giving the group ISMA coverage (which are filled by a bunch of backward, non-reading, racist islamofacists). I think Motoring-Malaysia reports with so much less spin than some of these 'news' portals. Well, of course, the only agenda I have is the love for motoring.

I personally know that there are some GLCs and banks in this country that actually have super good discounts from car manufacturers. Some of their staff actually get a nice 6% discount over and above any discounts given by the dealers themselves. They get their GST paid for actually.

There is actually nothing to moan or bitch about here. Move along folks.
