TURBOCHARGED HYUNDAI TUCSON MODEL LAUNCHED IN MALAYSIA - MORE BANG FOR YOUR RINGGIT WITH THIS VARIANT

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has, without much fanfare rolled-out a new variant of their good looking compact SUV, the Hyundai Tucson. This time, they've added some extra spice to the line-up with a turbocharged model - The Hyundai Tucson 1.6L Turbo GDI (T-GDI) Petrol Engine variant packed with new convenient features.

First off, it is competitively priced at RM145,588 (OTR Price without Insurance). The second and most interesting bit is the turbocharged 1.6L T-GDI petrol powered engine which makes a healthy 177ps and 265Nm of torque (delivered from a usable 1,500rpm to 4,500rpm). This powerplant is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) and should offer outstanding efficiency with quick, seamless shifting and brisk acceleration. If this transmission works as well as the 6DCT offered in the Hyundai IONIQ I recently tested, it's going to be a very refined shifter. I do like the fact Hyundai hasn't gone the CVT way in terms of reaching efficiency as DCT is more fun to drive than a CVT.

Anyway,  this new variant gets the usual top-spec features such as LED Positioning Headlamps with Static Bending Lights; Auto Hold function that automatically holds the brake steady once the vehicle has come to a complete stop, a smart powered tailgate and also features newly designed alloy wheels to differentiate it a little from the other variants.

Optional accessories with added costs, such as two leather packages for seats and interior door trimmings (colour options: red and white), body kit and 19” rims are available for customers who would want more individuality for their turbocharged Tuscon.

This turbocharged model is a welcome addition to the Malaysian Tucson line-up. When I tested the normally aspirated 2.0liter version I felt that it was already good as an urban roundabout vehicle with adequate if not sporty performance. Now, I think the new engine would make this a much more performance oriented compact SUV. It should not make driving more effortless than before.

All Tucson variants are entitled to 50,000km free service with three-year validity. HSDM offers a five-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on all its new passenger vehicles. A 24-hour road assist service is also available now for new and existing Hyundai vehicles. PRESS RELEASE

NEW TURBOCHARGED TUCSON LAUNCHED

SHAH ALAM, 7 June 2017 – Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has rolled-out the new

1.6L Turbo GDI (T-GDI) Petrol Engine variant of its compact-SUV, Tucson, packed with

exciting and new convenient features.

Priced at RM145,588 (OTR Price without Insurance), the turbocharged 1.6L T-GDI gasoline

engine that is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT) delivers 177PS at

5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 265NM from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm. The Hyundai-

developed 7DCT offers outstanding efficiency with quick, seamless shifting and brisk

acceleration.

When compared with some of the competitors’ continuously-variable transmissions, this

DCT is able to handle more torque with minimal power interruption throughout the

powertrain operating range for a natural acceleration characteristic while offering greater

durability.

Apart from the new powerful powertrain, this new variant is also bundled with convenient

features such as LED Positioning Headlamps with Static Bending Lights; Auto Hold function

that automatically holds the brake steady once the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

This prevents it from creeping forward or rolling backward; and a smart powered tailgate

which opens at the approach of the key-holder. The 1.6L T-GDI Tucson also features newly

designed rims for a sporty look.

“With the launch of the 1.6L T-GDI variant with more variants to come, we hope to expand

our SUV offerings and cater to more market segments. We will be introducing more Tucson

variants in the coming months,” said Mr Lau Yit Mun, Managing Director of HSDM.

The Tucson benefits from a solid body structure featuring 51% of ultra-high strength steel

for improved torsional rigidity and impact resistance and a host of innovative passive and

active safety features. As with all Hyundai models, the Tucson also features a state-of-the-

art safety system that offers optimal driving stability. These include the Vehicle Stability

Management (VSM) system, Hillstart Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC)

and the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with an Automatic Vehicle Hold feature. It is also fully

equipped with six airbags for all round safety.

Designed based on Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design theme, the Tucson employs

refined aesthetics with sculpted body form and sporty contours for an athletic, bold and

striking appearance. The front of the All-New Tucson is dominated by the Hyundai

signature hexagonal front grille, which connects to the headlamps with LED Positioning

Lamps to create a distinctive identity. The A-pillar positioning and the directional shape of

the wheel arches accentuate the car's dynamic appearance, giving the car a unique style

and provides a visual reference of the car’s wide track.

On the inside, a premium wrapped instrument panel is offered, with extra-wide instrument

panel contours to enhance the occupants’ overall sense of interior roominess. Interior

touch points have been upgraded with premium, soft-touch materials and an all interior

switchgear with a more refined feel during operation.

Optional accessories with added costs, such as two leather packages for seats and interior

door trimmings (colour options: red and white), body kit and 19” rims are available for

customers who would like to enhance the look of their Tucson.

This best-selling Hyundai C-segment SUV, posted a total global sales of 238,951 units in

2016, registering a sales growth of 9.75 per cent from the year before.

All Tucson variants are entitled to 50,000km free service with three-year validity.

HSDM offers a five-year or 300,000km (whichever comes first) warranty on all its new

passenger vehicles. A 24-hour road assist service is also available now for new and existing

Hyundai vehicles. For more information or to place bookings, head to the nearest sales

outlet or call Hyundai’s Customer Careline at 1-300-13-2000.
