DS has been officially launched as a premium stand-alone brand which now sits clearly one level up from Citroen. With the unveiling of the new DS 5, all Citroen badging has been removed and DS is now a stand-alone brand globally and here in Malaysia. This flagship model introduces the new DS brand identity as well as gaining a new front end restyle that signifies its status as a premium model. NAZA Euro Motors, the distributors of Citroen, and DS, here have just launched the car in Malaysia.
The New DS 5, is a vehicle of avant-garde styling inside and out as it already was prior to this facelift. It embodies all the attributes of present and future DS vehicles. Of course, the new DS badging promotes an even more upmarket look than the one before as the PSA Group via the DS brand attempts to establish itself as a stylish alternative to existing premium car makers. I personally want to see how this does on a global scale also.
But anyway, when it comes to the new DS 5, I actually got to view it at the new Citroen, DS, Peugeot combined showroom in Glenmarie, Shah Alam. It is a unique take on how a premium car should look like. It is stylish hatchback type of body shape with a lot of unique touches. Much like the larger Citroen of old, they have the unique trait of having a premium car with a hatch. Definitely different from the norm.
Certain pre-facelift characterful styling touches like the chrome strips from the lights to the A-pillar are retained as it is a prominent feature in the car. As are the very nicely quilted leather seats which look like the come from the same factory as those luxury French handbags. Of course, I do wish it was actually more outrageous than it is. I do like even more flamboyant French cars.
The new DS 5 is powered by PSA's venerable 1.6 – litre turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection. It makes 163hp at 6,00rpm and 240 NM of torque and is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. Its fuel consumption over a combined cycle, has improved to 5.9km per litre with CO2 emissions of 135g/km.
The on-the- road price with insurance for the DS5 is RM198,888. Colour options for the new DS5 are Artense Grey, Noir Perla Nera, Bleu Encre, Pearl White and Whisper Purple. The DS5 comes with five-year years Peace of Mind warranty valid for a total of 5 years or up to 120,000km whichever comes first; 24-hour Roadside Assistance service and exclusive access to the Sky Lounge by Naza at Subang Airport, all to provide the best ownership experience for its customers.
