NAZA Italia, official importers and distributors of Maserati in Malaysia previewed the all-new Maserati Levante SUV recently. This is the first SUV for Maserati and it, like other Maserati prior to this, gets its name from the name of a regional breeze or wind - Bora, Ghibli, Syamal and others.
The Levante shown in the opening photo is a left hand drive model and is making its rounds here to show customers and interested people how a Maserati SUV looks like. This is a big thing for Maserati as luxury SUVs sales are a big thing globally and this is the vehicle that would allow Maserati access into it.
Over in Europe, the Levante which is based on the Ghibli and Quattroporte platform features Maserati's 3.0L V6 engine, one in diesel and one in petrol (figures should be like the Ghibli, with 345hp/500Nm form and in the S variant, 404HP/55Nm) . By 2018, a 560 horsepower V8 is planned for sale. Transmission is a 8-Speed ZF Automatic Transmission with four-wheel-drive.
All the current Maserati styling cues are present on this car. It does look in some ways like what a Maserati Ghibli hatchback would look like. Of course, the photos are deceiving. The car is not some small tiny hot hatch.
The official launch should be within the next couple of months or so and prices have not been finalised as yet. But NAZA Italia is already accepting bookings for the car and invites the public to head over to NAZA Italia’s showroom in Petaling Jaya, where their sales team can provide more details on the Levante.
