UMW Toyota Motor, the official distributors of Toyota in Malaysia have announced slightly upgraded and / or enhanced specification for the Toyota Fortuner SUV and Innova MPV and Hilux Pick-up Truck. These slightly different specified models will be made available for booking from 3
September 2018 onwards, with the sales launch and deliveries to customers to take place
later in September 2018.
According to UMW Toyota, the upgrades are in line with Toyota's philosophy of continuous improvement, or Kaizen. So whilst this is not a full facelift or model change, the Toytoa Fortuner, Innova and Hilux gets new equipment and styling tweaks from September onwards which can be said to be the 2019 Model Year variants for these vehicles.
The Toyota Innova MPV and Fortuner SUV gets a new colour to the line-up - Phantom Brown (It is not stated whether this colour is new for the Hilux but you do see it in the photos here - so it probably is a colour offered by UMW Toyota here for the Hilux already). This new
exterior colour now allows Fortuner customers a total of six different colours choices whilst those that want an Innova can choose from seven different colours. More choices for customers is always good.
Aside from the colour option, the Toyota Fortuner line-up get more standard safety equipment throughout all four variants offered on sale. All are now equipped with advanced driver assistance systems as standard. he These systems are Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Active Traction Control (A-TRC). So all variants of the Toyota Fortuner, come end-September 2018 will be the same in terms of safety equipment.
While VSC, BA and HAC
have been available in the Fortuner for many years, the A-TRC system is a more recent development that
provides more effective traction control in slippery conditions and in muddy terrain. The system basically detects wheel spin and distributes torque between
front and rear wheels to suppress unnecessary wheel spin and control skidding. The system can detect when one or more wheels have lost traction and automatically applies the brakes to the wheel with no traction, allowing it to send power to the wheel which has traction. This way, the vehicle’s stability is maintained and the driver can safely drive around a bend.
Developed under the
same Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) program, the
Fortuner, Innova and Hilux shares the common platform underneath their different styling.
The Fortuner and
Innova both fit 7 persons and up to 8 persons inside the Innova, being a MPV. The two vehicles offers buyers features such as
power-operated rear cargo doors and cruise control (for the Fortuner only), Smart
Entry & Start system, LED headlamps and 8-way power adjustment for the
driver’s seat. The touchscreen infotainment systems have extensive features, including connectivity to compatible smartphones and to
the internet while on the move (where a connection to the internet is required).
The latest generation of the Hilux pick-up truck is what Toyota claims to be the
best ever developed as it combines rugged engineering with creature comforts that we are used to in normal cars. The robust and reliable nature of the Hilux is still there but now it is made more comfortable with each new generation of the vehicle.
As the cars mentioned here are authorised Toyota vehicles, the
Fortuner, Innova and Hilux come with a 5-year
warranty. The Fortuner and Innova, come with a 5 years unlimited mileage warranty too.
