Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, have just launched the New Peugeot 3008 SUV Plus and New Peugeot 5008 SUV Plus. These are Peugeot's refresh of the two locally assembled SUVs and they are the culmination of a joint agreement in 2018 between Naza Group and Groupe PSA to establish Naza Automotive Manufacturing (NAM) as the Southeast Asia hub where they are also assembled for export from Malaysia.
The 2019 Peugeot 3008 SUV Plus (Active in front, Allure at the back) and 5008 SUV Plus are deemed to be the brand's more popular vehicles here as SUV type vehicles have seen an upsurge in demand. Here in the Klang Valley, most of the new Peugeots you see on the roads are actually their SUVs. Even their smaller hatchbacks seem less visible these days. But this is the current trend and not totally limited to Peugeot.
The New Peugeot 3008 SUV Plus is the smaller of the two where it is shorter and can only seat five whereas the larger 5008 SUV Plus can seat seven when push comes to shove. Aside from the difference in length, most of the bodystyling is the same, with even the light clusters being similar. Two variants of each SUV will be offered, the Active and the more higher specified Allure variant.

In terms of exterior styling, the front end of the car, or the grille, retains a floating grille design and LED Sequential Scrolling Indicators. There is a new roof rail design and chrome side mirrors reaffirming the vehicle’s muscular yet elegant characteristics. Both the New 3008 SUV Plus and New 5008 SUV Plus come with a new panoramic sunroof and sport 18-inch alloy wheels in two-tone diamond finish depending on which variant you purchase. The styling of these two SUVs make them the more interestingly styled vehicles on Malaysian roads. The Higher specced Allure variants also feature LED headlamps while the more affordable Active variants (of both vehicles) are fitted with halogen main headlights.
In terms of the interior, both SUVs feature Claudia (leather design model name) leather seats with either Graphite or Goa stitching that varies by the variant. Maintaining its fresh and dignified leather and fabric dashboard and door panel décor, the very unique, different yet stylish dashboard is further illuminated by blue mood lighting touches all around the cabin. Soft touch materials fill the cabin and it is nice to the touch and it does look very premium.
Peugeot is committed to delivering a high-end experience and the new Peugeot i-Cockpit reflects this promise. The vehicles are now equipped with new Navigation function in the 8-inch Multifunction Colour infotainment touchscreen system = on both the New 3008 SUV Plus and New 5008 SUV Plus. The segment-leading 12.3-inch high-resolution above the steering wheel type Digital Cluster Display becomes more customisable with the addition of ‘Onyx’ graphical style, a new ‘Driving Assistance’ display mode and new tailor-made ‘Personal’ modes. The New 5008 SUV Plus can display an additional ‘Navigation’ mode to reflect map manoeuvres right in the driver’s eye level.
The Peugeot i-Cockpit Amplify allows the adaptation of key settings enabled by two distinctive ambiances to enhance the cabin experience. ‘BOOST’ for a dynamic experience or ‘RELAX’ to envelope the occupants in a serene ambiance. The SUVs also feature Drive Sport Pack which heightens the sight, touch and hearing senses for a sporty grip and feeling through stiffer assisted steering, more responsive accelerator, greater engine and gearbox agility and digitally amplified engine sound. All for a better drive experience aside from ensuring all passengers have a comfortable experience inside the SUVs.
There is also a motorised smart tailgate is built into both SUVs to provide convenience in opening and closing the boot hands-free with a swift foot motion under the bumper’s centre.
In terms of performance and drivetrain, both are basically the same as when it was launched. Since they share the same platform with one just longer than the other, both come with the Peugeot 1.6liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine and it front wheel drive. It makes 167ps and 240Nm torque and it is sent to the front wheels via a 6 speed automatic transmission.0-100kmh is in 8.9seconds and has a top speed of 205kmh. Combined fuel consumption is estimated to be 7.0lilters per 100km. The figures stated are for both models, which clearly show their similarity.
Nasim has equipped the New 3008 SUV Plus and New 5008 SUV Plus with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems such as Driver Attention Alert, Speed Limit Recognition and Recommendation, 180 degree reverse camera with stitching function, and an upgraded Blind Spot Information System and Active Lane Departure Warning, which utilises a windscreen camera to detect road markings and automatically adjusts the vehicle’s direction slightly while alerting the driver.
Aside from the Active Safety systems, the now common, standard features such as 6 safety airbags, Advanced Electronic Stability Program, Advanced Grip Control, Hill Start Assist, Indirect Tyre Pressure Detection and an Electronic Stability Program which incorporates Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assistance (EBA), Wheel Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). Not too bad these days.
The Active base variant of the New Peugeot 3008 SUV Plus is offered at RM150,888 while the higher spec Allure variant goes for RM163,888, both on-the-road prices excluding insurance. The New Peugeot 5008 SUV Plus also comes in the Active and Allure variants, priced at RM166,888 and RM179,888 respectively.
Both models and their respective variants are offered in Nera Black, Pearl White, Amazonite Grey and the new Aster Grey colours, with the New 3008 SUV Plus receiving an exclusive Metallic Copper colour and the New 5008 SUV Plus getting the distinctive Emerald Crystal finish.
Currently, Nasim offers both SUVs with 5 Years Peace of Mind warranty, 3 Years Free Service, together with Nasim’s existing 24-hours Peugeot Assistance towing service and complimentary access to SkyLounge by Naza at Subang Skypark (Terms and conditions apply, obviously)
I think that these two SUVs are Peugeots strongest products in recent years. This refresh is more of an upgrade in equipment levels and a celebration of PSA Group's more direct involvement here in Malaysia. The 3008 and 5008 SUVs are actually still impressive vehicles and look as fresh as ever. What is offered is essentially more value for money in terms of features. These are indeed handsome looking SUVs also. That French flair is truly prevalent here and it actually outshines its French rivals here in my opinion....and that rival may even be its PSA Group stablemate from DS! Personal opinion.here though.
Both of these days should be available for viewing at all Peugeot showrooms nationwide.
