The Perodua Bezza is The Best Selling Sub 1.0liter Car in Sri Lanka

Quite and interesting bit of export news this. The Perodua Bezza, which has been on sale over in the island nation of Sri Lanka, has become the country's best-selling new sub-1.0 litre sedan beating out the likes of the Kia Picanto 1.0 and also the Hyundai Grand i10 (something we still don't get over here). To date, the Bezza sedan has found around 1,500 new owners there.

According to Perodua, as of the first seven months of 2019, the Perodua Bezza leads the sub-1.0 litre class in Sri Lanka in terms of new vehicle sales, across all bodystyles. This is quite an achievement for a car which is priced at Rs 3.69 million (RM86,200*), at its launch in June 2017 The Bezza is among the fastest-selling models Perodua has ever offered there. The most popular may be the Perodua Axia, which has sold some 3,000 units since 2015.

Sri Lanka is actually the Perodua's biggest overseas market, where local distributor Unimo Enterprises has sold over 15,600 Perodua cars since 1997.

“We congratulate Unimo Enterprises Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Mr Mahesh Gunathilake and his team for their hard work in promoting the brand and especially for the significant milestones they have achieved so far,” said a very pleased Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

According to Dato' Zainal, Perodua will continue to support its overseas distributors as the company looks to expand in the Asia-Pacific region.

“We work very closely with Unimo to provide product knowledge and technical training for their sales and service staff, so our valued Sri Lankan customers can rest assured knowing that their Bezzas and Axias are always in the best of hands,” added Dato’ Zainal.

Only one Bezza variant is on sale in Sri Lanka comes with an aluminium-block 998 cc VVT-i 4 cylinder engine and a four-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission, allowing a rated fuel efficiency of above 21 km/l.

Commenting on why the Bezza has been well accepted, Unimo Enterprises CEO and Executive Director, Mr Mahesh Gunathilake said, “Buyers love the Perodua Bezza and Axia for their compactness, practicality, quality, reliability, durability and fuel efficiency. Both are also surprisingly roomy for their size,” Enterprises Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Mr Mahesh Gunathilake.

“In particular, the Perodua Bezza has quite successfully introduced the compact sedan segment to Sri Lanka, a market long dominated by hatchbacks. Our customers really appreciate the bodystyle, increased comfort and cavernous 508-litre boot. The Perodua Bezza can take five people in comfort and their luggage too, making it very ideal for family journeys,” continuedMahesh continued.

Perodua aims to export 3,270 cars this year – a considerable 50% more than last year’s 2,184 units. Over 80,000 Perodua vehicles have been sold outside Malaysia to date. It does show that the small steps taken by Perodua have come to fruit.
