2019 Perodua Axia Now Open for Booking - Advanced Safety Features & a New STYLE Variant - Prices Estimated to Start From RM24,090

[UPDATE - Perodua has just informed us that they have discovered a few errors/inaccuracies in the 2019 Perodua Axia teaser spec sheet released to you on the morning of 22 August. They are as follows:

1. Incorrect - front corner sensors on all variants except E and G
Correct - front corner sensors are only available on SE and AV

2. Incorrect - G does not have electric side mirrors
Correct - G has electric side mirrors (electrically-adjustable but non-retractable)

3. Incorrect - GXtra, SE, AV and Style variants have automatic retractable electric side mirrors
Correct - GXtra, SE, AV and Style variants have retractable electric side mirrors that do not automatically fold once the engine is turned off (the driver folds the mirrors by pushing a button)

So take note as the photo of the brochure below is the now the new Brochure teaser spec sheet instead of the previous one which I have promptly removed.

I would say that this piece of news comes hot after the heels of the recent launch of the facelifted 2019 Proton Saga A Segment Sedan. Perodua has started taking orders for the 2019 Perodua Axia, their popular A-segment super compact city car / hatchback has which they have now announced to have its line-up refreshed, offering better value, advanced safety and more style. As they've also announced an Axia STYLE variant.

There will be six variants of the 2019 Axia on sale - No photos at the moment just these teasers from the official brochure. These will be the Perodua Axia E, G, GXtra, SE, AV and that new STYLE variant. The prices are estimated to be between RM24,090-43,190 (on-the-road before insurance for Peninsular Malaysia). According to Perodua, there is an Axia for every purse, purpose and personality. The 3P Unique Selling Point for the Axia.

“The Axia is at the very core of what Perodua stands for, (which is) to provide affordable and fuss-free mobility for all. Over 380,000 units have found homes since we first introduced the model in September 2014, and it was in fact our best-seller from 2015 through 2017,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad explaining a little about their popular little hatch.

“With the 2019 Perodua Axia, we aim to redefine practical mobility in Malaysia by levelling up the standards of value, safety and style to ensure that the Axia remains your first choice." Added Dato' Zainal.

The Perodua Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 (ASA 2.0) Debuts in the Axia

Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 (ASA 2.0*) driver assistance safety systems, which first made an appearance on Perodua's first seven seater SUV, back in January, now makes a debut in the Axia range in the Axia AV variant. This is a first in terms of having active safety systems in an A segment car, making it the most affordable car in Malaysia with such a feature.

ASA 2.0 comprises Pedestrian Detection (up to 50 km/h), Pre-Collision Warning (up to 100 km/h), Pre-Collision Braking (up to 80 km/h), Front Departure Alert and Pedal Misoperation Control.

“By bringing ASA 2.0 to the 2019 Perodua Axia, we are bringing advanced safety technology to the people, just like we did with the third-generation Perodua Myvi back in 2017,” explained Dato’ Zainal.

Additionally, all variants from GXtra and above are equipped with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control, and all variants except the base E have ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution as standard.

All variants are still powered by the venerable 1.0 litre 1KR-VE engine with variable valve timing. The Perodua Axia 1.0 liter engine is coupled to a five- speed manual transmission on the entry level Axia E variant and an electronically-controlled four-speed automatic transmission on all other variants.

The Perodua Axia was Malaysia’s first Energy-Efficient Vehicle (EEV) when it was launched in 2014. Today, with rated fuel efficiencies of 22.5 km/l for the manual, 21.6 km/l for the auto and 20.8 km/l for the new STYLE variant, it continues to be among the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the country.

“The advances in safety and additional features, coupled to the Axia’s renowned fuel efficiency, practicality, spaciousness, low ownership costs, ease to drive and dependability while maintaining its affordability, mean it now offers more value than ever before,” said Dato’ Zainal.

New Axia STYLE variant

On the new STYLE variant, Dato’ Zainal has said that the company is taking a bold new step with the Axia STYLE, a new addition to the Axia family that will appeal to the fun and active side of everyone.

“We welcome the public to visit any of our sales outlets nationwide where our authorised sales advisors will be only too happy to assist you and answer your queries on the 2019 Perodua Axia, which will appear in showrooms soon.” Dato’ Zainal said.

From the side profile of the brochure pics above, one could assume that the new 2019 Axia has a pronounced front bumper spoiler as well as roof rails. It could definitely mean that the this is the new Axia STYLE. It could be something with a sportier bodykit and crossover styling from the looks of it.

Whatever it is, it does look like the Malaysian public is the one that benefits from these new models from Perodua, and Proton! The estimated prices of the new Axia is also darn competitive and now, the Axia could be the most sophisticated A segment car as it has active safety features in it - of course, this is for the top of the line SE variant which will come in at around RM43K. * ASA is a driver assistance system that helps to reduce the risk of collisions and is by no means a substitute for safe driving. Always be alert and cautious behind the wheel.
