Perodua has announced that they have succeeded in reducing the waiting time of the Aruz to between 1 month and 1.5 months depending on model from a waiting period of about between 2 months and 2.5 months previously on increased production. According to them, they have ramped up production on the very popular, affordable SUV as well as other models where needed. Note the word 'affordable' here folks.
So because of the increase in production, Perodua estimates that its January to July sales figures reached 140,900 for all models, which is on par with 140,900 units from the same period last year. In terms of the Aruz, it sold 17,989 units between January and July this year.
According to Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, “In terms of comparison, the months of June, July and August last year saw a “tax holiday” resulting from the elimination of the Goods and Services Tax or GST by the government. Notwithstanding the circumstance, we are fortunate that our performance so far is comparable to the “tax holiday” impact”
On the Aruz, Dato’ Zainal said Perodua was able to further improve on its production processes resulting in better delivery of the SUV. I suppose this is also where practice makes perfect, in that the boys and girls at Perodua are getting better, as well as faster in assembling the Aruz over at the Perodua plant.
“We continue to focus on quality and delivery as our customers comes first. We thank you for your continued and strong support which has led to the Aruz being the most popular SUV in Malaysia – this is truly an important milestone for us,” Added Dato' Zainal.
He further mentioned that Perodua is keeping to its sales target of 235,000 units by year-end which is an increase of 3.4% from 227,234 units sold in 2018. On 17 July of this year, Perodua announced that it will increase its sales target to 235,000 units for 2019, an increase of 4,000 from its 231,000 target announced in January. The increase in sales target was to meet with strong demand for all Perodua current models.
The total production target for 2019 has been revised to 249,000 units, up 2.9% from the previous target of 242,000 units. Both manufacturing plants are operating at 97% capacity, which Perodua notes as stabilised at the optimum level of operating condition; this has increased from last year’s figures of 96.2% for PMSB and 94.6% for PGMSB, while defects per unit (DPU) at both plants have recorded steady declines.
So the point of this bit of news by Perodua is to inform those who have put their money on an Aruz. Now I would also suggest people who are waiting for their affordable SUV to be patient. Like any product where demand exceeds supply there is bound to be a waiting list. Do not believe any sales people 100% is also another piece of advice which I would like to impart. They like to give people a lot of hope. The best is the " Don't worry Abang, you will be able to get your car before Hari Raya".
This usual has a big chance of not actually happening. But his commission is also important to him you know. So if a product like the Perodua Aruz has a waiting period, know that it is super popular with not only you, but everyone else who put money down on the car. You and maybe ten thousand people all over Malaysia may have put money down almost at the same time. Even a company which is super efficient in its production processes like Perodua is bound to get hit by supply issues.
So be patient folks.
