Weststar Maxus Launches The New V80 Commercial Van

The refreshed 2018 Maxus V80 commercial van has been launched by Weststar Maxus over in Penang recently. According to the brief, the cost-competitive commercial van can be customized to meet individual business needs.

Powered by a 2.5liter turbodiesel engine, the Maxus V80 is said to offer the highest space utilization rate, the best ground clearance, and the best interior height among its competitors. The V80 features slightly improved looks compared to the previous one and takes some styling cues of the Maxus G10 MPV.

According to Weststar Maxus, the V80 has also passed the world’s most rigid ECE automobile road tests in severe conditions including extreme low and high temperatures, and high altitudes.

SAIC Maxus Automotive Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of SAIC Automotive Co. Ltd (China's largest automobile company) are the manufacturers of Maxus vehicles. They have been selling and marketing Maxus branded vehicles since 2011, where they had taken the name from the defunct LDV Maxus brand from the UK when they bought over the intellectual rights of that company.

One interesting thing about the Malaysian distributors, the Weststar Groupis that they had been part of the Maxus brand since it was taken over by SAIC and also prior to that when they had some dealings with the takeover of  LDV from former owners, GAZ Group of Russia. Now that is automotive history, and ever since 2011, Weststar has been appointed distributors in Malaysia.

Back to the Maxus V80 - the V80 in its various forms including the panel van has layout flexibility which allows for customization and transformation for use as mobile offices, food and kitchen trucks, ambulances, mobile libraries, delivery vehicles, and mobile sales showrooms. The Maxus V80 window van’s platform as a full-sized transporter is a category leader in terms of its size and headroom space.

The van can sit 15 people comfortably. The V80 is powered by a VM Motori 4 cylinder 2.5liter turbo diesel engine making 136hp and 330Nm torque. There are various transmissions offered including a 5 speed manual and a 6 speed automatic.

Safety equipment are pretty good with the dual front airbags (driver and passenger), ABS, EBD, Brake Assist for the braking systems, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESP as an option for the passenger van and also the panel van. There are also park sensors too, making the V80 quite a feature laden commercial van.

According to Weststar-Maxus, fleet customers include Eco Coach Travel and Tours, DHL, Federal Express and FFM-Massimo. A large number of these vans are already been operated by various government agencies including the Malaysian Armed Forces, Ministry of Health, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, among others.
