VIDEO: First impressions after test driving the upcoming 2026 PROTON e.MAS 5 EV B segment Hatchback - If Proton sells it at around the price they said they would, it will be a good first EV for most people

New video alert! This is our impressions and opinions after Proton allowed us a go with the upcoming (as at upload) 2025 2026 Proton e.MAS 5 battery electric vehicle (BEV). Do note that the test drive was under strict embargo rules so they unfortunately had a non stickered eMAS 5 out beside the stickered one and only allowed us to show the stickered one. It made footage hard. So you will only see me babbling on about the car. But if you want to know my opinion, this is it.

This is based on the Geely Star Wish and it set to be priced between 60k - 80k Malaysian Ringgit. 

Video: 2025 Omoda J8 AWD SUV tested off-road

We get to take it on a short off-road session in the 2025 Jaecoo J8 All Wheel Drive variant courtesy of OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia recently. The editor, enjoyed the short test drive session and basically explains how the J8 SUV performed. This J8 AWD actually makes it quite a decent drive for under RM200,000. A lot of decent off-road prowess for something essentially used in urban settings. This is very much a budget Range Rover for those wanting a SUV with some ability.

VIDEO - Preview of the upcoming PROTON S70 1.5T sedan - Our thoughts and Opinions after test driving it at the PROTON Test Track in Shah Alam

Sometime in early November 2023 we were invited by PROTON to try out their new C segment sedan, the 2024 Proton S70 1.5T sedan. This is their first all-new sedan since Geely came into the picture. Based on their BMA platform, this B/C segment car is based on the Geely Emgrand but we now think of this as a full C segment sedan as the car is actually nothing like a B segment sized car. It is as wide, and as long as a C segment sedan (think Toyota Corolla size – Corolla has an overall length of 4,630mm while the S70 is 4,638mm on a slightly shorter wheelbase).

Here is our preview and first opinion on the soon to be launched in Malaysian 2024 smart #1 BRABUS variant. This is built on the smart #1 Premium variant and adds twin electric motors to give it supercar levels of acceleration 0-100kmh in 3.9seconds. This is our second meeting with this crossover EV. The first was at the Proton Test Track in Shah Alam when it was all stickered up. So we got to drive it then but could not film or take photos of it.

This is a follow up of the previous article regarding the new locally assembled facelifted 2023 Porsche Cayenne. A brief rundown of the upgrades, tweaks and options that you can get with the 2023 Cayenne in Malaysia. Of course, this covers the base 3.0liter variant which is locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah. An assembly plant that has already assembled over 1,000 units of this sports SUV and the first place that assembles it outside of Germany.

This is a  video of the very very short test drive we had with the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor 2.0l Bi-Turbo pickup truck. Totally impromptu and unscripted. 

The launch event held at the Technology Park in Bukit Jalil continues throughout this weekend where interested parties can register and try out the Ranger Raptor. We managed a very, very short test drive of the Ranger Raptor 2.0L and we were quite impressed with its SUV or even car like refinement inside, even though we were doing a little bit of off-roading. Noise suppression was seriously good and it does feel more SUV rather than a pickup truck. The video is below:-

New Video: Scania Previews their Battery Electric Truck as they start marketing and sales of the type

 

Hello folks. As per the last article in the blog, Scania have started selling their Battery Electric Trucks here in the region. This is the video (below) of the preview held last week at Scania's Malaysian headquarters. I managed to attend it and take a look at what their future plans are and also see what their Electric truck is all about.

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HDSM) has launched the facelifted Hyundai Kona compact SUV yesterday (Friday the 16th of April 2021). It features some slightly different exterior styling tweaks as well as some little changes inside together with more advanced features and equipment. But didn't Hyundai just launch the Kona here very recently?

Video: Preview of the All-New 2021 Hyundai Elantra 7th Generation (CN7) in Malaysia - Extra Thoughts and Photos Inside

Alright folks! The All-New 2021 Hyundai Elantra (CN7) C segment sedan has been previewed in Malaysia and we had a chance to attend the media preview. Thanks to Malaysian distributors Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors. So as usual, we made a video about it. These are our thoughts about the actually gorgeous looking compact sedan (which actually isn't so compact these days as cars have gone larger by a fair bit). Malaysia is getting only 1 variant, the 1.6liter normally aspirated SmartStream engined variant with a Hyundai IVT (CVT for you and me) 8 virtual speeds transmission. It is fully imported, open for bookings and whilst prices have not been announced yet it should not be around RM120K but more closer to the RM140k mark as it is fully loaded with a lot of features.

New video on our YouTube Chanel folks. Actually this was released mid last week but I actually forgot to update this over here. It was updated on our Facebook page but I somehow forgot to update it over here in the Motoring Malaysia Blog. The video is another one on the 2020-2021 Proton X50 Compact SUV where the Autonomous Emergency Braking System was demonstrated at the second media preview held just before the launch of this now popular vehicle.

This 1st drive experience video on the upcoming Proton X50 1.5TGDI SUV was uploaded over at the Motoring Malaysia YouTube Channel last week folks! If you haven't subscribed over there you would have missed viewing it as I have only now attached the video here on the blog. This was the 2020/2021 PROTON X50 SUV 2nd Media Preview at Sepang Circuit. It was also our 1st Drive in the X50 1.5TGDI and therefore our first impressions on it.

This is a hot lap around half of the Sepang Circuit. Actually, it is more of a 'warm' lap of the South Track (half track) Sepang Circuit in the Proton X50 1.5TGDI Flagship variant compact SUV by Ex-Proton R3 (Motorsport) Driver Mr Fariqe Hairuman. It wasn't stomach churning dramatic or anything as the nasi biryani I had for lunch stayed inside my stomach and did not come out the same way it came in. This exercise was part of the 2nd Media Preview of the new Proton X50 featuring Active Safety & Performance Features.

Isuzu Malaysia has launched a 180 unit limited-edition 2020 Isuzu D-Max called the D-Max Stealth. From its styling, it is anything but stealthy as it was actually designed the catch the eye of a those that are looking for a new pickup truck to buy. So Stealth in name but extrovert by nature and it arrives purposefully decked out with exclusive designs and extra equipment levels inside it.

The Latest Mercedes-Benz Actros Has Been Launched in Malaysia [Video Preview Included]

Hap Seng Trucks Distribution Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for Daimler Trucks in Malaysia has just launched the latest generation Mercedes-Benz Actros truck or prime mover. There are many variants and options but the base vehicles are 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 prime mover trucks which can be configured with various equipment levels. The basic walkthough of the truck (mostly the 6x2) is featured on our Youtube channel as well as a presentation of the engine and AMT transmission unit. You can view the video below.

This is a short video posted by the folks at Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia in conjunction with this year's Halloween celebrations. Not going to write much but just to say go watch it. This was done during the launch of the 2019 refreshed Mercedes-AMG GT R & GT C sports cars at Sepang recently. It is quite different from most normal interviews as I don't ask anything about sales numbers or figures. Only about AMG, Mercedes-Benz and their cars, old and new.

The New 2019 Toyota Corolla Has Been Launched - We Get to Try the Corolla Altis 1.8 G CVT Up To Genting For The Launch and Back - Written & Video Review Here

The All-New 12th generation Toyota Corolla was successfully launched on 9th October 2019 at the Genting Sky Avenue.  Here, they have just started calling it the Toyota Corolla again, but it still has that Altis badging at the rear. It actually makes sense as we actually don't have a Corolla as well as a Corolla Altis variant running around at the same time. Anyway, this new 2019 (2020 Model year) C-segment sedan is now here in Malaysia and it is impressive  - You can view our first drive impressions review here as we have already published it on YouTube.
