Hello folks. As per the last article in the blog, Scania have started selling their Battery Electric Trucks here in the region. This is the video (below) of the preview held last week at Scania's Malaysian headquarters. I managed to attend it and take a look at what their future plans are and also see what their Electric truck is all about.
The truck is a Scania 25L with the low cabin configuration. This means easy ingress and exit from the truck and suitable for applications that require the occupants to get in and out often, like garbage collection, food delivery of supplies to restaurants and also last mile transport of goods like mail order deliveries of that sort.
With the use of an electric truck, noise pollution aside from zero emissions is gained as electric trucks run on batteries and they are pretty quiet so deliveries and also any type of collection can be done pretty quietly in the early mornings or even late at night. Suitable for use in urban areas.
The truck you see is also equipped with 4 wheel steering with the front and rear most axles having the capability to steer the truck. So it is even more suitable for use in urban environments.
This is the first BEV truck that Scania has sold in the region and this is the trucks that you may see in the near future especially when government agencies ask that companies, especially large public listed ones comply with environment concerns.
