The new locally assembled 2023 Porsche Cayenne - Roadshow is on for this weekend, the 7th and 8th October 2023 at the International Gallery, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC)

Porsche Malaysia celebrates the launch of the new locally assembled Porsche Cayenne with the launch of the 2023 facelifted, or refreshed 3rd Generation Cayenne. The Cayenne SUV is what Porsche calls the sports car for five. This was the first luxury SUV in the market and it now stands for modern luxury and performance and in its latest form, has some upgrades as well as an improved local standard equipment specification. It is available for order with prices from RM599,999 onwards depending on what you wish to add to the package.

Ever since the Cayenne started to be assembled in Malaysia, I hold the brand in very high regard. It isn't the actual thought that is allows those that can afford a Cayenne benefit even more from its CKD pricing, which is usually a good RM20-30k less than if it were fully imported. It is the fact that basically Porsche through their local partner Sime Darby have built up an eco-system in Kulim, Kedah where Malaysians work to assemble a Porsche. It may be assembly, but there is job creation in play here as this creates a support network of people that benefit from its assembly programme - from transporters, to the technicians in the plant and to those people surrounding the Kulim plant that supports them.

This ecosystem created is a testament to the partnership between Porsche and Sime Darby, and today, Porsche has chosen to celebrate this latest revision of the Cayenne by a larger than usual launch affair. The new Porsche Cayenne was officiated by Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance and Hannes Ruoff, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Asia Pacific at the launch event, held at The International Gallery at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club for both members of the media and later on, customers and friends of the brand..

Aside from that, the new Cayenne you see here was officially unveiled in April of this year. It's October and the official roll out of the latest Cayenne in locally assembled form has only taken around six months. Quite a feat actually.

The new locally assembled Cayenne gets an enhanced standard equipment package including Adaptive Cruise Control, Soft-close doors and the Sport Chrono Package. Elevated standard equipment levels from the previous locally assembled Cayenne are also retained; for example, the 14-way electric comfort seats with memory package, Porsche crests embossed on the front seat headrests, four-zone climate control and electric roll-up sun blinds for the rear windows remain standard on the new locally assembled Cayenne.

The new Cayenne has basically a slightly improved front end where the bonnet sits a few mm higher than before. There are also new headlight clusters with the Matrix LED lights as standard now. There is also a cleaned up rear light cluster with the light bar from left to right in a cleaner line compared to previously. It is also a little more angular than before.

Inside, the biggest changes is the dashboard with takes more influence from the 911 range and it features a curved instrument cluster with an open look to it. There is also a redesigned center console with a tiny weeny gear button. I can't call it a knob as its now placed higher up and very much smaller. No more knobs to caress if you know what I mean. Oh, there are newly designed door cards too. But that's a minor thing.

In terms of performance, the base Cayenne is the one that's locally assembled. If you want the E-Hybrid, S or Turbo variants, or basically any other variant, it will have to be a fully imported variant. But in terms of performance, you still get a 3.0 V6 which makes a decent 353PS and 500Nm torque. All wheel drive is via the 8 speed PDK (dual clutch) transmission and you do get a 0-100kmh time of 5.7seconds with the now standard sports chrono package. Top speed is 248kmh and all of this is done in comfort.

“Just months after making its global debut, the new locally assembled Cayenne arrives in Malaysia – underlining the importance of this market and the wider ASEAN region,” said Hannes Ruoff, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Asia Pacific. “The new Cayenne features one of the most extensive product upgrades in the history of Porsche, and with this enhanced specification made specifically for Malaysia, we hope to fulfill more sports car dreams for our customers and fans here.“

“We are proud to launch the new locally assembled Cayenne, providing a range of enhanced standard features specifically catered to our customers in Malaysia. The Cayenne is one of the most popular luxury SUVs in the region, proving its credentials time and time again through strong customer demand,” shared Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance.
