Happenings: Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Buys 55 units of the Perodua Aruz AV

The Malaysian Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) recently bought 55 units of the Perodua Aruz AV. This is the first time the seven seater 1.5liter powered SUV is bought by a government Ministry and it is also the SUV's first ever fleet deal.

Perodua had stated that over 23,000 units of the 33,000 bookings for the Aruz SUV have been delivered to their customers since its launch in January of this year. With one single swoop, the Perodua Aruz has become Malaysia’s best-value SUV and best-selling SUV for 2019 even with a few months to spare. It will most likely be the king of the compact SUVs by the end of the year.

A small hand-over ceremony was held recently at the ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya, where KPDNHEP Secretary-General Datuk Muez Abdul Aziz handed over a mock key to KPDNHEP Director of Enforcement Dato’ Haji Iskandar Halim Haji Sulaiman, who is in charge of the division which the most of the Aruz will be utilised.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad expressed Perodua's thanks to the Ministry, “We thank KPDNHEP very much for choosing the Perodua Aruz and in doing so, supporting the Malaysian automotive supply eco-system, as over 90% of the Aruz’s components are locally sourced. The same is true of all our current models,”

As stated above, the new Aruz will be used by KPDNHEP’s enforcement officers, who often take long road journeys in the course of duty. Perodua believes that the Aruz is durable, dependable, spacious, practical, easy to drive and due to its many seating configurations, very versatile. Not forgetting conveniences such as the built-in toll card reader, integrated dash cam, HDMI, Smart Link, Bluetooth and navigation.

While it may only have a 1.5 liter petrol engine powering it, the SUV is dependable and an efficient means of transport. As it has a raised ride height, it does have long travel suspension which will soak up the bumps on journeys. So yes, we do believe in this statement. Of course, these are not pursuit vehicles, but since the Ministry only travels to check on premises, where goods are stored or sold, this would not be a problem.

“With Advanced Safety Assist (ASA) 2.0, six airbags and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), the
Perodua Aruz has a maximum five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. It is also an Energy-
Efficient Vehicle (EEV) with a best-in-class rated fuel efficiency of 15.6 km/l, contributing to its low running costs,” Dato’ Zainal elaborated on why the Aruz could be an efficient vehicle for the job.

“Factor in Malaysia’s largest vehicle service network and we are confident that KPDNHEP will find a faithful, useful and delightful companion in the Perodua Aruz,” he added.

On a side note, but still regarding KPDNHEP, Perodua had sometime in July of this year hosted an engagement session with KPDNHEP in a move to curb imitation Perodua-branded products and parts in the market, becoming one of the first carmakers in Malaysia to take such an initiative. Now enforcement officers can do their checks in a Perodua Aruz.
