The Ford Ranger Splash - A 19 Unit Limited Edition Only Available on Lazada Malaysia from 11.11.2019 Onwards Till it Sells Out

If you are looking for a unique pickup truck, you could try to place a booking on the new limited edition 2019 Ford Ranger Splash. Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), the sole distributor for Ford in Malaysia recently unveiled the 19 units only Limited Edition Ford Ranger Splash, in conjunction with the upcoming Lazada 11.11 Shopping Festival. It will be the first pickup truck in Malaysia to be sold, or booked, via an eCommerce website.

The new Ford Ranger Splash is essentially a Ranger XLT+ 4x4 variant which has an all-black exterior and is fitted with a matte black front kangaroo bar, special front grille, side mirror cover, rear bumper, sports bars, alloy wheels and fender flares. You are basically getting a nicely blacked out pickup truck direct from the distributors without having to do anything to it. However, there are fluorescent decals (stickers), or ‘Ranger Splash’ decals on each side which as SDAC says, "complete the truck’s sporty and rugged looks and differentiation as a limited edition". But if you want that all-black pickup, just peel 'em off after you buy it.

This variant of Ford's popular pickup truck is fitted with the new generation 2.0L Single-Turbo diesel engine that is coupled to the smooth shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. This allows the  Ranger Splash to have 180 PS and a peak torque of 420Nm.

The truck is also packed with a lot of tech and features, such as the Easy Lift Tailgate, keyless entry with push-start button, the light and nimble Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), as well as LED daytime running lights and HID headlights for better visibility.  The in-car or in this case, truck infotainment system is fitted with the 8-inch touchscreen display, SYNC ® 3 is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with Bluetooth connectivity too. The Ranger Splash also features a built-in toll reader and a 360° Around View Monitor Camera.

The Ford Ranger Splash is not new to the Malaysian market. When Ford first introduced the Ranger in the late 1990s, it brought the lifestyle pickup culture to Malaysians. At a time when trucks were still purely utilitarian, Ford took big steps to focus on safety and comfort features. Back then, they had a variant called the Ranger Splash too. Of course, this new variant has all the latest bells and whistles as well as that unique blackout scheme (with some neon decals). The old one was in bright yellow though. A real splash of colour.

To further emphasise the Ranger’s versatility and capability as an alternative to passenger cars, Ford introduced the Splash edition – first in yellow and now in black – as a trendy and sporty lifestyle vehicle.

“Consumers’ purchasing patterns have altered dramatically in recent years. eCommerce has become entrenched in our daily lives that consumers have embraced purchasing items, including cars, online. This collaboration to offer the Limited Edition Ford Ranger Splash on Lazada’s online shopping platform gives us more opportunities to connect with a new generation of drivers through digitalisation,” said Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion on why SDAC is trying out new methods of reaching the consumer.

Muzri continued by saying, “We always look at new ways of reaching out to our customers by forging ahead in transforming and providing unique shopping experiences, with more things to come in the spirit of ‘Go Further’.”

“This collaboration reflects Lazada’s position as the trusted lifestyle destination for both brands and consumers, allowing Ford to extend its footprint by tapping into our database of shoppers who dare to embrace digital lifestyle solutions. As Lazada continues to reinvent eCommerce and innovate the way Malaysians shop, we are constantly working on offering new experiences and a wider assortment of products to meet our shoppers needs,” said Leo Chow, Chief Executive Officer, Lazada Malaysia.

It looks like more Malaysian vehicle companies are trying out eCommerce in order to reach out to their customers. It also makes buying a car easier as one only needs to click on an 'Order Now' button online to do so.
