The W247 2019 Mercedes-Benz B200 is Available in Malaysia - Priced from RM239,888

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has quietly brought in the new B-Class or the W247 Series of B-Class to Malaysia. It is now open for booking and there will only be limited numbers only per year. This was what I heard from a few of my friends who are sales advisors based at local Mercedes-Benz dealerships in and around Kuala Lumpur. Only one variant is being offered here, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz B 200 Progressive Line for RM239,888 before insurance in Peninsular Malaysia.

Imagine the new A-Class with a higher roofline. This is always what the B-Class is, a mini-MPV which seats 5 adults and luggage comfortably. It differs due to its taller interior volume. More of the compact people carrier look instead of the usual hatchback body shape. Of course, it also benefits from the latest model change as it looks looks more dynamic than its predecessor from almost every angle. Less awkward lines overall in my opinion.

Aside from its looks, Mercedes-Benz says that it is more agile on the road while offering greater comfort and space. The mini-MPV was essentially brought in to cater to the crowd of Mercedes-Benz customers who find the B-Class to be something they find extremely practical yet still having that Three-pointed star badge up front.

The new Mercedes-Benz B 200 Progressive Line comes with 1.3L 4-Cylinder Turbocharged Petrol Engine produces an output of 120 kW (163 hp) and torque of 250 Nm, with an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. So it may have that slightly family oriented look, but with its new chassis and that powertrain, it isn't a slouch in many ways.

Now since we will be getting the Progressive Line for the B200, it looks sportier and more dynamic than the usual. Still not AMG-Line but there are still a lot of nice sporty touches and it has that clean look to it overall. What the design brief of the new W247 was is to combine the function  and some sportiness. More than what is was before. Its styling and equipment line enhances the car with the now common twin winged louvres, badge in the radiator grille, a sporty front apron with chrome insert, side sill panels, and the 18-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels. Definitely a more cohesive design than the predecessor.

As for the interior features and multimedia equipmet, the B 200 Progressive Line interior has a  wrap-around cabin like the new A-Class which sweeps seamlessly from the dashboard, centre console and around into the doors. The interior features ARTICO leather upholstery in black, Comfort Seats, and black open-pore linden wood trim.

It comes with the latest Mercedes me connect (Mmc) system. This mobile system enables the driver or the passengers in the car to connect the vehicle with their mobile phone anywhere at any time. Mercedes me connect offers an extensive services at no cost for first 3 years. To become a Mercedes me connect user, first to activate the Mercedes me connect services by register in the Mercedes me connect Portal and download Mercedes me connect app for iOS or Android to access to the services via mobile phone.

Another Mmc feature fitted to the B 200 is the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system which could save you on emergency in vital minutes. If an accident is detected, a communications module with its own SIM card automatically triggers an emergency call which can shorten the time until the rescue services arrive. In an emergency, the following information is sent to the emergency call centre: the vehicle's GPS position data, direction of travel, vehicle identification number, estimated number of people in the vehicle, manual/automatic triggering, time stamp (time of the accident), language setting in the infotainment system (only in case of connection to the Mercedes-Benz emergency call centre), and drive system type (diesel, petrol, electric, etc.). Alternatively, an emergency call can be triggered manually to organise assistance.

Aside from the above, it is all about connectivity.  The LINGUATRONIC in Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) obeys practically every word. Say “Hey Mercedes” and your MBUX system awaits your wishes. These days, the user experience is up to another level. All of these features were first seen in the recently launched A-Class and are fitted here.

Other notable features from the equipment list include Blind Spot Assist which will assist you to detect objects in the car’s blind spot during lane changes, while Active Brake Assist can apply the brakes for you in an emergency.

It looks like the B-Class has matured a little more with this W247 generation of car. The flattened out nose somehow works well with the taller cabin area. The proportions are better in this new car.

You can get more details of this new B-Class by heading over to the nearest Mercedes-Benz showroom. It is priced at RM239,888 and is a fully imported model due to the smaller demand compared to the other Mercedes-Benz vehicles on sale here today.
