The Malaysia Autoshow 2019, organized by Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) was officially launched yesterday. Held at MAEPS, Serdang, it will be ongoing from now to the 14th April. The Autoshow was officially launched by the Prime Minister, Tun. Dr. Mahathir Mohamad where he visited and officiated the unveiling of the Limited Edition Perodua Bezza Autoshow edition and PROTON's preview of the facelifted Persona and Iriz.
The Malaysia Autoshow 2019 is themed “Mobility for All”. This continues its tradition of showcasing the latest vehicles on the market, highlighting the advances in technology, safety and comfort of vehicles as well as exhibiting the latest industry trends as the world moves towards connected mobility. According to MARii, there are more than 32 OEMs and 170 exhibitors from 7 countries which are taking part at the exhibition.
Anyway, we were there for the opening day yesterday and you can see from the photos of what you can expect if you decide to visit the autoshow. There are both indoor and outdoor activities for all (which includes test drives and taxi rides) and you can find out in the detailed summary of the exhibits down below.
In terms of some interesting cars at the launch, BMW launched their first ever fully electric car, the i3s for the Malaysian market. The EV i3s costs an estimated RM276,000+ and has a range of approximately 260km as well as 0-100kmh of 6.9 seconds. Not too shabby for a premium full electric compact hatchback with unique doors.
Perodua launched the Bezza Autoshow Limited Edition. 50 units of this model with matte grey bodykits can only be booked at the motorshow, so this is quite a unique little compact sedan. Proton previewed, but did not launch the facelifted Persona and Iriz models. Quite a waste that they did not just launch the cars as Tun Mahathir actually unveiled the cars - how much more marketing mileage do you actually need since we had the Prime Minister of Malaysia unveiling the cars for you?
Anyway, other stuff include a massive display of tuned and modified cars. These include street tuned cars, supercars, sports cars and even tuned 4x4s making it super interesting for those who enjoy modified rides. There is also Honda Malaysia showing off a Civic Type-R Mugen Concept, something you cannot buy as it isn't on sale anywhere.
There is also Toyota previewing off the Yaris hatchback which will be launched very soon. This is something which looks good and could actually be a threat to Honda, who seems be pretty quiet in terms of actual new car launches (aside from refreshes) this year.
The above, and many more.... do read on for a more details summary on the autoshow courtesy of MARii. Oh, do visit the autoshow if you have the time. It may not be as big as some regional shows, but your support to the automotive industry may make the next few autoshows even better.
