PROTON has extended their agreement with PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PLMM) to develop, supply and deliver lubricant products and functional fluids, effective 1 January 2019. This simply means that every Proton vehicle sold here in Malaysia will be filled with PETRONAS lubricants and if you end up at an authorised service centre, you will be getting Petronas lubes too.
PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia is a subsidiary of PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) and PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI). Through PLMM, PETRONAS has been the official lubricants solution provider to PROTON since 1989. This extension to their supply agreement is suggested to take the partnership further and it shows in the cordial and trusting relationship the parties have with each other.
Two agreements were recently entered into. The first is the the Global Supply, Technology, Commercial and Collaboration Agreement (STCCA) was inked by Ruslan Islahudin as Regional Business Head APAC PLI witnessed by Andrew Wong, Regional Head for OEM APAC together with PROTON signee Lim Meng Jin, Chief Procurement Officer of PROTON, witnessed by Yusri Yusof as Senior Director of Corporate Strategy.
The second agreement signed was the Local Supply and Commercial Collaboration Agreement (LSCCA), it was signed by Hardeep Singh as the CEO of PLMM for PETRONAS and witnessed by Gan Kher Yang, General Manager Sales B2C meanwhile PROTON’s signee was Tuan Haji Hamizan Osman, Senior Director Procurement of PROTON while the witness remained the same.
The signing of the agreements were witnessed by Dato' Sri Syed Zainal Abidin, MD/CEO of PDB and Chairman of PLMM and PLI (above), alongside Giuseppe D’Arrigo, CEO of PLI. PROTON was represented by Dr Li Chunrong, CEO of PROTON and Dato Radzaif Mohamed Deputy CEO of PROTON (pictured below).
PROTON and PETRONAS have a long history of working together so it was only natural for us
to extend our partnership. PROTON has a lot of exciting new models in the pipeline and we are eager to explore technical solutions developed together with PETRONAS that will benefit our customers,” said Dr Li Chunrong.
This partnership will enable PLI and PLMM to continue to supply a range of quality products for PROTON’s factory fill (for new Proton cars) and also their aftersales service at their service centres. The main product is the PETRONAS Syntium SE range of engine oils. The current range of Syntium engine oils are actually made to high standards.
One reason was the advent of PETRONAS Lubricants International which was actually known as Selenia, an Italian lubricant brand which PETRONAS bought over over a decade or so ago. The purchase bought a lot of know-how in terms of lubricant technology and more.
PETRONAS’ lubricants and functional fluids are developed based on the PETRONAS Fluid Technology SolutionsTM integrated approach, which is at the core of its engineering work. It leverages on the knowledge and insights gained through its extensive R&D facilities worldwide including the USD$60 million Global Research and Technology Center in Villastellone Turin, Italy and its USD$8 million Satellite Research and Technology Centre in Contagem, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
