Video: Our Test Drive & Review of the Facelifted 2019 Mercedes-Benz C 300 AMG-Line (W205) - Probably the Best Sports Sedan on Sale Today

This is our test drive review of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C300 AMG-Line (W205) Facelift. We had tried this out at the Malaysian media launch of the facelifted C-Class last November 2018 and we loved it!

It is the best Mercedes-Benz, not Mercedes-AMG sports sedan sold in Malaysia today, and the best premium compact sports sedan you can buy here also. It has comfort, luxury, equipment, ride and now, handling in one package.  In terms of interior comfort, and how much premium-ness it portrays, no other premium compact sedan can match its opulence.

Now it has the performance and road holding to make it the most complete package for its price. RM304,888 on the road without insurance.

I honestly believe that this C300 AMG-Line gave me the most fulfilling drive experience of 2018. Coming down from Cameron Highlands in one at full chat was one of the best drives for me. The road from Ringlet to Sungai Koyan and onwards to Raub is full of undulations, ruts, hairpins and long sweeping corners. The C300 wasn't unflustered at all by the challenging roads.

It is quite surprising that you get this high levels of road holding and also the high levels of confidence that the car gives you so that you can tackle the roads easily. This car smothers the road with its 2.0liter engine, 258hp and 370Nm torque. The 4 cylinder turbocharged engine is also characterful. It makes a nice noise when you're gunning it and its turbocharger does feel like a massive air pump. It allows this relatively small engine (compared to something like a 4.0 V8) to punch above its weight.

The 9 speed G-Tronic automatic gearbox isn't slow to shift too. You can leave it when you're in Sports mode and it works very well. Gearshifts are smooth and fast enough. No need to use the pedals much as it seems smart enough. You can use the brakes and the throttle to steer into and out of a corner.

Damn, this car has so much composure and you can take it by its scruff and throw it down a challenging road. So unlike the C200 Avantgarde I drove going up to Camerons on the same route. That is a typical comfortable Mercedes-Benz. This isn't just any ordinary Mercedes-Benz. I think its a baby AMG. This is an AMG-Line that comes really close to its sportier brethren.

It is also fabulously equipped, you get opulence that you could never find in an entry level premium compact sedan. It still makes the interior of other premium sedans in its segment look like they are interiors of taxis. It makes you feel like  you have made it in life folks. So you get a fantastic interior and a great drive.

Watch the video folks. This is a good package. There are some flaws, like the touch pad which is in all W205 series cars so you got to wait till they either get rid of it or change it in the next generation model. There is also a worry of somewhat higher maintenance if you keep it with you for too long a time due to it being super packed with technology and the standard fitment AirMatic air suspension (which is so sorted out in the facelifted W205 Series). which will make sure that maintenance may cost you more in terms of time and some money.

Buy this car and enjoy it for 5 to 6 years, and then buy another. Yes, it's that good. It is one of the most balanced car you can buy in terms of performance, refinement, practicality, ride and handling. I  am tempted to sell a house for one. Or my kidney.

Patience. Have patience. And folks, do watch the video!
