Perodua has announced that is would like for their new SUV, the Perodua Aruz, to top the SUV sales charts over in Sabah and Sarawak. The two states, make up East Malaysia and is a predominantly SUV-driven market. This new target by Perodua was announced at the flag off for the Perodua Aruz TransBorneo Convoy, where six Perodua Aruz will travel from Kuching, Sarawak to Tawau in Sabah. This is a 1,500km journey and should be a journey that will prove the capabilities of the Aruz SUV for the people over there.
Perodua Aruz TransBorneo Convoy was flagged off on the 16th of March at Perodua’s Kuching 1 Branch. Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad, flagged off convoy which will be travelling from Kuching to Tawau, covering approximately 1,500 km from 16 to 22nd March 2019. The convoy will be calling at major cities along the way. These include Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kota Kinabalu, Ranau and Sandakan where the members of the convoy will engage with local communities and councils, allowing them to have a proper look at the new Perodua SUV. The photos posted here are some scenes from the journey taken.
There, at the event, Dato Zainal said that Perodua is targeting to expand further its East Malaysian market share from 40% currently, The new Perodua Aruz will spearhead that expansion in this SUV-popular region
“I am pleased to announce that since the Perodua Aruz’s launch in January, over 4,000
units have found homes out of over 14,000 bookings nationwide to date. This favourable reception by the Malaysian public both humbles and encourages us to work harder to improve our delivery times and serve you better,” Dato’ Zainal said at the event.
The Perodua Aruz’s 220 mm ground clearance would give it great all-round visibility and the ground clearance to traverse semi-rough terrain and small floods with ease. This is quite useful in areas of East Malaysia where there are still some sections which are still unpaved (without tarmac). The Aruz's SUV style body-on-frame (ladder frame chassis) construction also makes it durable and capable of handling loads. It may not have 4 wheel drive but for most situations, it is not needed for normal, non heavy duty off roading. If one is on dirt roads, it isn't necessary to engage in 4wd. Only if the terrain is totally horrendous then only will 4wd come into play. For normal dirt and gravel roads, the extra clearance is all you really need most of the time.
Aside from that, the seven seats in the Aruz can be adjusted in many ways to suit owners’ lifestyles, and it is also well equipped with safety features. There are six airbags and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) being standard across the range, plus Advanced Safety Assist 2.0 on the AV variant. It is because of this, the Perodua Aruz has a maximum five- star ASEAN NCAP safety rating. The Aruz is a government-certified Energy-Efficient Vehicle (EEV) with the best fuel economy in its class so if one drives it economically, it should be able to cover the long distances it sometimes takes to cover the distance between towns and cities in East Malaysia.
The Perodua Aruz TransBorneo Convoy is another smart marketing move by Perodua. This will prove a point to the people of Sabah and Sarawak that the SUV will be dependable. Lets hope for a safe journey for the convoy members.
The Aruz is priced at RM74,900 for the X variant and RM79,900 for the AV variant.
