Recently, a photo of a quotation price for the replacement hybrid battery of a Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid was making rounds in social media. It stated a price of over RM120,000 for the battery and many people jumped, choked, spat out their coffee, muttered under their breath and other things. This was because of the sky high price. But fret not, in their pursuit towards providing the best ownership experience for our customers in 2018-2019, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia have introduced the Hybrid Battery Extended Warranty programme for the E300 BlueTEC Hybrid and S400h limousines. Those who own these vehicles better take this package if your cars are coming out of warranty already.

The Hybrid Battery Extended Warranty programme for the E300 BlueTEC Hybrid and S400h limousines comes in at an extremely affordable price of MYR2,688! No RM120,000+. With this special warranty, customers are now able to extend the battery warranty for the Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTEC hybrid and S 400 h for an additional 4 years. The Hybrid Battery Extended Warranty provides 100% coverage for the repair or replacement of the hybrid battery for up to 8 years or 180,000 kilometers whichever comes first (terms and conditions applies).
This is indeed very good news. It also shows a company which is super proactive at getting things done. The folks at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia have stated that they continuously seek to ensure that all their customers have the optimal cost of ownership through the provision of market adequate pricing for our older vehicles. They are also taking care of those cars that are out of warranty and have actually announced the official prices for bybrid batteries for the limousines mentioned above.
The new recommended retail price for a hybrid replacement battery is
RM50,000 for the E 300 BlueTEC hybrid battery; and
RM65,000 for the S 400 h hybrid battery.
It does not matter if MBM are subsidising these prices as the main point for the owners is that there is no more talk of paying up to one-thirds the price of what they originally paid for the E300 BlueTEC hybrid. The prices announced here are actually on par (or only slightly) more expensive than some other premium brands' hybrid cars. So the prices are actually quite fair.
One of the reasons why these batteries cost so much is the fact that these are imported parts (and are also taxed and have added costs like transport, packaging etc.). Sometimes, it is also a fact that our Ringgit vs the Euro or the US Dollar is bad. While a McDonald's Big Mac may cost 10Euros, and about RM10 here, when it comes to cars, a 62,000 Euro C300 comes up to over RM300,000 here. 62,000Euros comes up to RM285,000. So you see the problem here....it is partly to do with the strength of our currency.
So there you go. Customer care done quite right.
