AFA PRIME Berhad Implements Traffic and Safety Measures at KLK (Karak Highway) and LPT1 (East Coast Expressway phase 1) Expressways for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025

This is important for those travelling back to the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia for Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025. From 27 March to 6 April, daily traffic on KLK (The Karak Highway) is expected to rise by 70% (110,000 to187,000), LPT1 )The East Coast Expressway Phase 1) by 83% (41,000 to 75,000).  So the operators of the highways, AFA PRIME Bhd will be taking some extra measures to ensure that they are better prepared to cope with the increased traffic during this period as well as suggesting times of travel for those using the highways

Firstly, the Toll and Traffic Division workforce will be increased by 21%. They will be enhancing highway safety with real-time monitoring, Expressway Mobile Patrol Vehicles (EMPV) unit, and RELA deployment, and 24-hour emergency response services.

Read the press release below for details of what will be implemented. Of course, with millions of Malaysians on the road during the festive season, there will still be massive traffic, but hopefully things will not get ridiculously bad and that incidents will be down to a minimum. One can wish for the best in all things.

PRESS RELEASE

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 MARCH 2025 – In preparation for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri travel rush, AFA PRIME Berhad (formerly known as ANIH Berhad) has introduced a series of traffic management and safety measures to help ensure a smoother and more secure journey for highway users.

With a significant increase in traffic expected, the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) will see peak eastbound travel from 27 to 30 March, while the westbound return flow is anticipated from 4 to 6 April. During this period, KLK’s daily traffic volume is expected to rise by 70%, from 110,000 to 187,000 vehicles, while LPT1 could see an 83% increase, from 41,000 to 75,000 vehicles per day.

To accommodate this surge, AFA PRIME Berhad is enhancing its operational capacity by increasing the toll division workforce and traffic division workforce by 21%. Additionally, patrol teams, Expressway Mobile Patrol Vehicles (EMPV) unit, and RELA officers will be deployed at major toll plazas, rest areas, and key congestion points to ensure smooth traffic movement. The Traffic Control Centre (TCC) will provide real-time monitoring and coordinate responses to traffic conditions, while 24-hour tow truck and emergency response services will be stationed at strategic locations for immediate assistance.

In addition to traffic management efforts, facilities along KLK and LPT1 will be enhanced to improve convenience for road users. Selected rest areas will be equipped with portable toilets, additional parking, and an increased number of cleaning personnel at all R&Rs to accommodate higher visitor volumes and all petrol stations along the highways will operate 24/7.

Datin Radzimah binti Mohd Radzi, Executive Director of AFA PRIME Berhad, stated, “Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a time of togetherness, reflection, and joy. As families embark on their journeys to celebrate with loved ones, our priority is to ensure their travels are smooth, safe, and worry- free. With enhanced traffic management, increased personnel, and continuous monitoring, we are committed to making this festive season a seamless experience for all highway users.”

As part of its commitment to community care, AFA PRIME Berhad, in collaboration with the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) under the Jom Balik Kampung initiative, will distribute 2,000 iftar kits to road users at Gombak Toll Plaza on 27 March 2025. This initiative aims to provide essential nourishment to travellers breaking their fast while on the road, reinforcing AFA PRIME Berhad’s commitment to community care during Ramadan.
