The Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2019 will be happening from 20th June to 22nd June 2019 at the Malaysia International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC) . This is the fourth installment of the biennial event for all sorts of commercial vehicles. This time, the theme for the exhibition is ‘The Future of Transportation in Malaysia’ and around 60 exhibitors will take part in displaying their latest products and innovation.
The MCVE is actually South East Asia's largest exhibition dedicated to commercial vehicles. The last time it was held in 2017, it had attracted 60 exhibitors and more than 6,700 visitors. This time around, the organisers had stated that there would be about the same number of exhibitors which include many regular participants from past MCVEs who are also leading players in the industry. The expo space at MIECC will be covering an exhibition space of 8,000 sqm. It will enable exhibitors to showcase their latest products and innovations in the commercial vehicle market.
This year will include new participants, Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd (TCIE) and coach builder, Terus Maju Services Sdn Bhd. Both are said to take up significant exhibition space between them. There will also be exhibitors sponsoring and supporting the key components of the event. Guardian South East Asia and Nittsu Transport will be supporting the R&R area with food trucks to provide free food and coffee. Hengst is coming in as the main sponsor of the networking area and Giti Tyre will be hosting the lunch for the Asian Trucker Drivers Club members. Shell is the official provider of the fuels and lubricants at MCVE 2019.
Stefan Pertz, editor of the Asian Trucker and Asian Buses magazines, and organizer of the MCVE said, “What exhibitors and delegates can expect is an expo that is multi-faceted – beyond just a trade show. There will be a Rest and Relax (R&R) area to encourage meeting and interaction between delegates and exhibitors. The Scania Driver Competition MCVE Edition will once again return, as well as a variety of fringe programs including seminars and networking sessions”.
Among the highlights of this year’s event is the exhibitor’s ‘Hour of Power’ whereby selected exhibitors are given the ‘power’ to use their creativity during the designated hour to vie for the attention of the delegates, without having to rigidly comply to the expo’s guidelines.

Aside from the above, Government agencies are also throwing support towards MCVE 2019. The three main agencies who will have their own displays and booths are the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), the Road Safety Department (JKJR) WPKL and the Road Transport Department (JPJ). All had their representatives present at the media briefing of the expo yesterday. From what we have heard at the briefing, they will most likely be emphasizing road safety and also pushing for active safety features in commercial vehicles in the near future.
MohdRasid Osman, Director of Vehicle Safety and Biomechanics Research Centre, Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) lauded the initiative of MCVE 2019’s organizer for bringing the spotlight to this year’s theme ‘The Future of Transportation’ as the expo will serve an excellent platform for all the players in the industry to share and offer solutions on providing safe, efficient and sustainable transportation for Malaysia in the coming future.
Azharul Izwan Puaadi, Director of Road Safety Department (JKJR) WPKL said, “Safer vehicles and roads will continue to be our mandate as we navigate the future of transport and I am delighted to know this area will maintain its priority in the agenda of MCVE 2019”.
“With transportation rapidly evolving, it is important that we understand how our current infrastructure will need to adapt for the vehicles of the future. The expo will provide us with a gathering of minds that can generate valuable feedback and input,” added Ir Mohd Yusop bin Mohamad, Assistant Director of Automotive Engineering Division, Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Personally, we hope that MCVE 2019 will be a showcase of all kinds of technology. From road safety, active safety systems, future automation in terms of equipment and vehicles, autonomous technology, environmental technology, sustainability and connectivity in commercial vehicles. Knowing that the major European brands will be participating, it will be quite interesting.
“With each event, we continue to discover what makes the expo more innovative, progressive, and interactive for the attendees. We see the MCVE as not just a display of commercial vehicles. It is the ultimate meeting place for everyone that is involved in the commercial vehicle industry, making it this year’s must-attend event”, said Pertz.
The organisers of MCVE 2019 hope that this trade show will attract a crowd of between 6,000 - 8,000 visitors. While the number may seem small, this is essentially a trade show where those that attend are industry players - from those selling, to those buying the vehicles and parts. It will definitely be a place where industry people will network and business deals will be transacted, either at the expo or as a result of the expo.
It will be interesting. So if you are interested in the truck and bus industry, visiting MCVE 2019 is a must attend event for the month of June 2019.
