Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the GLC 200. This now expands their official SUV range to further cater its customers wants and needs. Being premium car buyers, they have particular wants and needs actually. So we think the new GLC 200 has been launched to cater to those who want something that isn't based on the A-Class platform - the GLA, but want something based on the C-Class category but somehow feels that they do not need to purchase a GLC 250. So a GLC 200 has no plugged that hole.
So this is the new baby GLC. It may be a baby, but the new RM288,888 (before insurance) Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 still comes well equipped with numerous high-end features that buyers in this category must have in their cars. This includes the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, an Off-road exterior package, 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels and LED High Performance headlamps on the outside. You however do not get a more aggressive front end like the GLC 250 but if you look at the pics, this isn't so bad looking considering it is a little further south from the GLC 250's asking price of RM 325,888.
The interior still looks pretty good. No difference from the GLC 250 at a glance. The interior colours range from black, espresso brown to silk beige in combination with the exclusive brown open-pore ash wood trim and the ARTICO man-made leather dashboard still ensure that this SUV looks and feels utterly premium even for a baby GLC. Note the espresso brown variant pictured here. Brown seems to be catching on these days as a rich, deep colour for cars nowadays.
Being a Mercedes-Benz 200 series vehicle, the GLC 200 is powered by a 2.0 litre 4 in-line engine, which produces an output of 135 kW (184 hp) and 300 Nm of torque. The nine-stage 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission comes in standard. These engine performance figures are the same as the C200 and E200 which use the same powertrain and drivertrain. It is all quite simplified these days. Same engine and gearbox, different body but based on the same platform or thereabouts. With some tuning differences here an there in terms of power delivery.

The GLC 200 is equipped with the OFF-ROAD Exterior design which underscores the vehicle’s SUV
characteristics with rugged design features in chrome. The radiator trim boasts an integral Mercedes star
and two louvres in matt iridium silver with chrome inserts. Other select highlights include the 19-inch 5-
spoke light-alloy wheels, the chrome-plated simulated underguard and the exhaust system with two visible,
chrome-plated tailpipe trims and the anodized roof rails.
In addition to the striking look, the LED High Performance headlamps provide more safety at night thanks to
a broad light distribution, a light colour similar to daylight and low energy consumption. The tail lights feature
LED technology and create a visual highlight while improving visibility.
The GLC 200 is powered by a 2.0 litre 4 in-line engine, which produces an output of 135 kW (184 hp) and
300 Nm of torque. The nine-stage 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission also comes as standard on the GLC
200. Depending on the mode selected for the DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic handling control, the automatic
transmission with a torque converter boasts great agility and responsivenes. It offers an impressively high
shift speed and perfect transitions for energetic sprinting as well as with gentle, barely perceptible gear
changes for enjoyable cruising.
Its interior features Exclusive line, including upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather/fabric, ARTICO-covered dashboard with contrasting topstitching in three colours, seats featuring an exclusive upholstery layout, wood trim in high-gloss brown line structure lime and the 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel.
