UMW Toyota Motor, the official distributors of Toyota here in Malaysia has been quite active in giving back to the society. They have recently continued their annual Green Wave Project recently in collaboration with the Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) and the residents of that community. Together, they have added more greenery to the area by populating the Kebun Kominity (Community Garden) with nearly 100 types of trees of various species.
This is the Green Wave Project, where it intends to create awareness among local communities and Toyota customers about the need for sustaining and restoring the environment as well as promote urban gardens in Malaysia. Tree planting is a part of this annual initiative. This year, the Kebun Komuniti and playground area of BK9/5 Bandar Kinrara (which are part of MPSJ's watch) have been planted with close to 100 Trumpetbush (Tecoma) shrubs, a variety of fruit trees and herbal species. More trees are always a good thing as these are the best known form of natural carbon emission absorbing sponges.
The Green Wave Tree Planting programme has been undertaken over the years by UMW Toyota. Notable tree planting projects included mangrove swamps restoration and rehabilitation at Sungai Pelek, Banting, where 1000 trees were planted in 2013 as well as in Setiu, Terengganu in 2011.
Besides mangrove areas, UMW Toyota have worked with many local councils and organizations over the past few years in more populated areas. Over 1,300 trees were planted in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, Cameron Highlands and in FRIM, Kepong. Last year, over 1000 trees were planted in the surrounding area of UMW Toyota's assembly plant, Assembly Services Sdn. Bhd.
Good move, UMW Toyota. Let's hope you guys continue with this noble programme and give a lot more back to the country.
