Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia Launches The Volkswagen Automotive Academy - The First Of Its Kind In Malaysia

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) today reaffirms its commitment to keep on developing the Volkswagen brand here in Malaysia with the opening of the brand spanking new Volkswagen Automotive Academy here in Glenmarie, Shah Alam. This new training centre is able to acomodate up to 150 trainees per day is fully equipped to conduct the required sales and aftersales training for all of its personnel in the country.

Erik Winter, Managing Director of VPCM and Deenan Nadar, Aftersales Director of VPCM

This multi-million Ringgit training centre complies with the Volkswagen Group's global training standards in all aspects. It is manned by 13 staff who have the necessary experience and are fully Volkswagen Group certified. The Academy also shows VPCM's seriousness in enhancing the Volkswagen brand here in Malaysia. With this, the quality of personnel handling the brand is enhanced and in turn, this will hopefully ensure better, value added service to their customers.

Sales training is pretty straightforward usually, where the sales personnel from the dealer network will be trained in batches on all sales and marketing aspects required. There will also be courses that they would have to go through in conjunction with the launch of a new Volkswagen model.

But it is aftersales training that is quite a critical part of this setup. Aftersales in terms of technical and non-technical support is an essential focus of this training centre. Quality aftersales is important in order to keep customers satisfied.

So here at the Volkswagen Automotive Academy there are four work bays and two technical service centre (TSC) bays. Other facilities and equipment such as wheel alignment machine, headlight adjusters, in-ground hoist, electronic board systems training, and diagnostics systems and tools are used to train the personnel for hands-on learning experience. These tools and equipment are Volkswagen AG-certified especially those special tools required for a certain model or engine type.

There is also a designated room for parts system management, where trainees are taught practical and simulated training on how to manage, store and categorize parts and equipment. Aftersales isn't just about fixing a car. It is also about parts inventory and system management.

The training centre also proves an important point which I'd like to make - Any multinational company that is willing to set up a training centre has the intention of staying put for a while. They are willing to invest in the people or human capital here. Any centre with such a layout and proper systematic syllabus that enhances career path of their employees clearly shows how serious the company is.

With this Academy, Volkswagen joins a select group of foreign brands with a specialised training centre here in Malaysia. It's a strong gesture in my opinion.
