Mercedes-Benz Launches The EQ Brand For Their Hybrid Electric Cars - The C350e & E350e Now Designated EQ Power Models

 

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has officially launched the EQ brand here in Malaysia. With this new brand into the Mercedes-Benz portfolio,  the plug-in hybrid models of E 350 e and C 350 e now being designated as EQ Power models. The EQ Power brand will eventually pave the way for EQ, a title reserved solely for a range of pure electric vehicles in the future. These future range of cars will be based on the Generation EQ concept car introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 2016.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Records Strong First Quarter 2018 Sales Performance

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) had announced that a total of 3,335 of their premium passenger cars were sold in the first quarter of 2018. This is a double digit growth for the marque where they've achieve growth of 13.2 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2017. Aside from that announcement which somehow shows a Malaysia which seems wanted a lot more Mercedes-Benz, MBM also officially launched the EQ brand  with the plug-in hybrid models of E 350 e and C 350 e now being designated as EQ Power models as well as officially opening the new EQ branded charging stations at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur yesterday (this is reported in a follow-up article here).

Super Busy Event Filled Day Today - Mercedes-Benz in the morning, Scania afternoon & Aston Martin in the evening

Today was one of those hectic days. Attended the Mercedes-Benz 1st Quarter 2018 media briefing and the launch of their EQ sub-brand for hybrid and electric powered vehicles. The event was held at Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur. It was also a record first quarter in sales for them as people are buying Mercedes in record numbers.

PROTON's Facebook Poll To Name Their New SUV Receives Overwhelming Response

And meanwhile.... the Facebook poll launched by PROTON inviting the people to vote for the name of its upcoming and first SUV has attracted a heck of a lot of response for far. According to Proton, as at Wednesday 11th April 2018, more than 69,000 Facebook users had taken the poll while the accompanying video has been viewed over 165,000 times. More than a thousand people also shared the content on their own personal pages.

Two of Hyundai Motor's vehicles have won at the Red Dot Design Awards 2018. These are the Hyundai NEXO Fuel Cell vehicle and the Hyundai Kona subcompact SUV. The Red Dot Design Award is recognized as one of the better recognised global awards for high quality design and the winners are awarded by a jury consisting of high profile designers, professors and journalists. The 2018 contest attracted entries from 59 countries, making the Red Dot Award the largest product competition in the world.

The Jaguar Land Rover’s F-Pace 2.0L Ingenium SUV has been officially launched in Malaysia after making its local debut at Jaguar's recent Malaysian leg of 'The Art of Performance' South East Asian tour recently. This premium SUV will be available in three variants - the F-Pace Prestige, R-Sport (Mid-Spec) and R-Sport (Hi-Spec). This is Jaguar's first SUV and this version packs a road tax friendly 2.0liter engine. It will be priced from RM425,800 onwards.

Motorsport: The Final Races of Formula 4 South East Asia Championship (F4 SEA) 2017-2018 Season Will Happen at Sepang This Weekend - 13th-15th April 2018

This weekend, the 13th to the 15th of April 2018, is the grand final of the second season of the Formula 4 South East Asia Championship (F4 SEA). F4 SEA is a race series which is certified by the FIA and will take place at the Sepang International Circuit, alongside the Blancpain GT race series. As you can see, the Sepang Circuit still has a lot of racing events lined up.

It is priced at RM188,888 on-the- road without [updated-via Naza Kia] insurance and can now be ordered from all Kia showrooms in Malaysia. The introduction of this new top of the range SX variant means that the discontinuation of the previous range topper, the EX variant with immediate effect. 

Perodua GearUp Smart Bluetooth TPMS Introduced - Tyre Pressure Monitoring System Accessory For All Perodua Cars

Perodua's GearUp range of accessories for Perodua cars have a new product out - the GearUp Smart Bluetooth TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System). This is an add-on tyre pressure monitoring system for Perodua cars. It works in conjunction with an in-car smart device and a smartphone app (if you want) which allows users to keep track of their vehicle’s tyre pressures. Right now, the Perodua GearUp Smart Bluetooth TPMS is offered at an introductory price of RM385 until 30 June, after which it will be priced at RM430 (Peninsular Malaysia). 

Toyota Eco Youth Program 2018 is Launched - 11 Selected Schools to Come Up With Community Waste Management Solutions & Try Win Some Prizes Too

UMW Toyota Motor launched the 18th edition of Toyota Eco Youth Program 2018 last week. The annual CSR event organised by UMW Toyota is aimed at educating the participants, who are mainly secondary school students, on sustainable waste management practices. This time around, students from 11 selected schools will be trained on problem solving skills to address concerns on environment preservation. They will be presenting their completed projects in August of this year where the participating schools will be vying for cash prizes of RM10,000, RM7000 and RM5,000.

Trucks: Tata Ultra 814 & 1014 Intermediate Light Trucks Launched in Malaysia

Tata Motors together with their Malaysian partners and distributors, DRB-HICOM Commercial Vehicles (DHCV) had launched their latest Intermediate Light Truck platform. The Tata Ultra 814 & 1014 series truck together with the Tata Super Ace mini-truck were unveiled at an event attended by the High Commissioner of India, H.E. Shri Mridul Kumar and also Mr. Rudrarup Maitra, Head of International Business, Commercial Vehicle Business Unit Tata Motors. 

Happenings: Shell Eco-Marathon 2018 - Team Eco Voyager from University Malaya Comes Third In The Hydrogen Prototype Car Category

Make the Future Singapore, which is Shell’s festival of ideas and innovation for Asia happened in the Lion City recently and the four-day saw thousands of visitors to see what the future purportedly holds. The part we are most interested in is the mobility portion of the festival especially the Shell Eco Marathon Asia (SEMA) of which seven teams from six Malaysian universities had participated. And this time, Team Eco Voyager from University Malaysia place third in the Prototype – Hydrogen category (above). Not a bad achievement for Malaysia.

Trucks: Tenaga Nasional Berhad Purchases More UD heavy-duty Quester Trucks For its Fleet

Recently, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Fleet Management Department has placed an order of nine units of heavy-duty UD Quester 8-litre rigid trucks. This brings the total number of UD Trucks operated by TNB, the national electricity provider, to 40 UD trucks.  UD Trucks and sole distributor partner Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd (TCIE)  held a truck key handover ceremony to mark this milestone at the TNB headquarters.

TATA Motors launched the Tata Super Ace 1 ton mini truck yesterday at the Setia City Convention Centre at an event that is deemed to mark an even greater working relationship between Tata Motors and DRB-Hicom, its authorised distributor in Malaysia. The Tata Super Ace will be marketed and sold by DRB-HICOM Commercial Vehicles Sdn Bhd and will cost RM46,990 onwards making it one of the most affordable and robust mini trucks in the market.

It will also be locally assembled in Malaysia and will cost RM245,888 before insurance and other options. This whilst having the legendary 'Cooper S' moniker is actually less powerful than the eAll4 or hybrid all-wheel drive Countryman Plug-In Hybrid and sits beneath it in the Malaysian MINI Countryman line-up.
