The New Second Generation Range Rover Evoque is Launched in Malaysia - Prices Start at RM426,828 onwards

Earlier today, Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia officially launched the the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque luxury compact SUV. Malaysia will be getting two variants of this second generation Evoque- the entry model Evoque and the Evoque R-Dynamic, priced at *RM426,828 and *RM475,398 respectively (*price stated is inclusive 50% sales tax waiver -valid till 31 December 2020, excluding car registration, insurance and roadtax).

The exterior features new slim LED headlights and taillights as well as flush door handles. This second generation Evoque adds to the model’s instantly-recognisable design. It is an evolution of the original’s distinctive coupe-like silhouette (if ever you can consider a crossover a SUV). It adds a lot of the latest Range Rover styling cues that you first saw on the Range Rover Velar, especially the way the lights up front and at the rear, the front grille and the way the whole shape of the car is styled. A baby Velar you may say, one without even less overhangs front and rear. Which is what makes it the most baby of the Range Rover range (pun intended) of vehicles. And honestly, better looking than the previous version.

In terms of drivetrain technology, the new Evoque boasts an All-Wheel Drive with Driveline Disconnect technology, which comes as a standard feature for both variants. The system allows the driver to fully disengage drive to the rear wheels when cruising to reduce frictional losses, and seamlessly re-engage in a fraction of a second, when conditions dictate a need for additional traction.

For more adverse conditions, the Terrain Response® 2 system is engaged to automatically adjust the vehicle’s driving character to match surface conditions. The Terrain Response® 2 system is now available as standard in the new Evoque. The Evoque also has the best-in-class wading depth of 600mm.

The Evoque is still a Range Rover, which is why so much effort is put into their off-road abilities.

A new 2.0 litre Petrol Turbocharged Ingenium engine has been introduced in the New Evoque. The twin scroll turbocharged petrol engine supplies a fast response to throttle demand and provides a more engaging drive as boost pressure is delivered near- instantaneously. The Ingenium engine is paired with a state-of-the-art nine-speed automatic transmission. This is in line with the Velar as it shares the same underpinnings in many ways. What you've seen in the Velar is trickled down into the baby Range Rover you see here.

The new Evoque benefits from a longer wheelbase of 21mm. It allows  for an increase in the overall cabin size with improvements seen in the rear leg and knee room, as well as a larger glove box and centre console. The luggage space is also 10% larger (591 litres) and much wider, which makes it possible to fit in a folded pram or a set of golf clubs. The space can be further increased to 1,383 litres when the flexible 40:20:40 second-row seats are folded.

Back to other details especially on the better equipped the R-Dynamic variant, it features more exterior enhancements and exciting offerings including burnished copper accents on the front and rear bumpers, as well as front fender inserts that add to the vehicle’s unique appeal.

Other compelling offerings of the R-Dynamic variant include the segment’s first ‘ClearSight Rear View Mirror’ that transforms into a high-definition (HD) video screen when activated. If rear visibility is compromised by passengers or bulky items, the driver can flip a switch located on the underside of the mirror to activate a camera feed from the top of the car to display the back end of the vehicle in crisp high definition. The screen provides a 50-degree field of vision and superior visibility in low light.

Exclusive for the R-Dynamic variant, the world’s first ‘ClearSight Ground View’ technology allows the driver to virtually see through the hood and under the front end of the vehicle by projecting a 180-degree view of the ground onto the vehicle’s upper touchscreen. This is especially useful when navigating through tight parking spaces, high city curbs or when tackling rough terrains.

The new Evoque is also the first Land Rover model to feature Smart Settings, a system which uses artificial intelligence algorithms to learn the driver’s preference. The system applies the driver’s preference to automate comfort and driver-specific media settings throughout the drive. The new Evoque “recognises” the driver from their key fob and phone with the use of ‘self-learning’ technology, enabling specific seat and steering column position set up upon approach. Up to eight driver profiles can be registered. After a few trips, the Evoque remembers the driver’s preferred temperature settings, media preference and commonly dialled numbers, depending on the time or day of the week.

The Land Rover InControl® Touch Pro Duo infotainment system is central to the vehicle’s digital interior experience, combining two sleek 10-inch high-definition glass touchscreens and a 12.3-inch driver display behind the steering wheel. The result is a beautiful, ‘hidden until lit’ interior equipped with state-of-the-art digital interface. It comes standard for both Evoque and Evoque R-Dynamic variants.

Nick Rogers, the Executive Director, Product Engineering of Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The Evoque is now smarter than ever. The software that sits behind our infotainment system has been refined to provide a more intuitive customer experience. On top of that, we’ve added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration.” The Apple CarPlay connects you to your smartphone while the 4G Wi-Fi hotspot connects you to the internet.

The new Evoque is fitted with a premium Meridian Sound System. With a total of 11 speakers including a subwoofer, this audio system offers great definition, crystal clear highs and full deep bass.

Lane Keep Assist, a new safety feature, helps the driver to stay in their lane by adding a necessary steering correction feature. It initiates a gentle steering input to return the vehicle to its intended position Driver Condition Monitor technology is another added safety feature that is based on the driver’s steering inputs. Jerky, non-linear movements that are typical symptoms of a fatigued driver, will automatically trigger an audible and visual warning in the instrument cluster.
