The unmanned Shell Select station is powered by BingoBox Retail Technology and it a 24-hour unmanned convenience petrol mart, located at Shell Tezz Enterprise on Jalan Tun Razak. This innovation gives Malaysians access to the Shell Select store at any time of the day and offers cashless payment methods. Unmanned stations seem to be good for security reasons actually, with no staff to get held up in a robbery and no cash to be stolen too.
The Shell Select station, powered by BingoBox Retail Technology is aimed to provide a better customer experience and to Shell, it marks a key milestone in Shell’s retail journey in Malaysia.
According to Mr. Shairan Huzani Husain, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd, the company is proud to be the first in the industry to provide this innovation to their customers.
"Our mission is to make life’s journey better for our customers and we believe that Shell Select powered by BingoBox Retail Technology will do exactly that. With the help of technology, our Shell site employees now have more time to attend to customers’ needs thus ensuring that they are able to leave our station a little happier.” said Shairan.
Shell Malaysian states that the Shell Select powered by BingoBox Retail Technology offers a technology-driven experience. To enter the Shell Select store, customers need to scan a QR code available on the BingoBox app, using their mobile phones. Customers then can place their selected items on a checkout counter that will automatically provide the total amount of the transaction. Payments can simply be made via debit and credit cards, BingoBox mobile app as well as Boost’s e-wallet.
Shell Malaysia wants the Shell Select powered by BingoBox Retail Technology to be seen as a catalyst to change the way Malaysians view convenience retail in the petrol mart industry through human-less and cashless technology. Of course, with the security measure of a QR code and the BingoBox app, it is easy to track someone who has entered the store via survailence. No stealing 250 cans of cola okay? They know its you.
Malaysians can now download the BingoBox mobile application from the App store (for iOS users) or the Google Play Store (for Android users), and stop by the all-new Shell Select powered by BingoBox Retail Technology located at Shell Jalan Tun Razak for snack breaks at anytime of the day, while they enjoy the added convenience of the cashless payment methods.
This is something new indeed. Personally I like human interaction, but the future of motoring everywhere around the world seems to be in full automation. Vehicle manufacturers are talking about self-driving cars and trucks so it is obvious that even our fuel stations would see some level of automation.
Whether we like it or not, this is the likely future and companies no longer have to deal with a shortage of staff, overheads and other issues when there are human beings involved. I mean, these days most of us actually use the automated teller machines at the banks to deposit, withdraw and also other transactions. It is essentially the same here.
