Recently, three Malaysian Castrol mechanics which formed, Team Malaysia during Castrol's Asia Pacific Cars Super Contest 2018 came out as the winners in this regional mechanics competition organised by Castrol. Team Malaysia had managed to come up on top after competition with other top mechanics from India, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. Aside from the usual trophy, some prize money and bragging rights, the win also gave them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with the Renault F1 pit crew at the Singapore Grand Prix 2018.
Castrol Asia Pacific Cars Super Mechanic Contest 2018 winners Yim Shao Ze, Alvin Tan Yong Jun, and Low Pai Khoon of Team Malaysia, made a trip of a lifetime to Singapore to experience some behind-the-scenes thrills and spills that will happen during the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix. They had the opportunity to spend some time with the Renault F1 pit crew.
They had the opportunity to experience how a F1 car is prepped for a race, and also had the chance to meet both Renault F1 drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz Jr. One important insight that these boys were given were first-hand industry tips & tricks from both the driver’s No 1 mechanics, Jonny Goodenough (below, right) and Jason Milligan. These were experiences that money just can't buy. Sometimes.
They've got to thank Castrol and also themselves for having the discipline, skills and knowledge required to win the challenge organised by Castrol. This experience was made possible through Castrol’s commitment to recognise, acknowledge and reward the experts on the tracks and on the road -the mechanics.
So there you go folks, work hard and you may get to go places even if you are a technician. Nothing can hold you back if you are the best in your field.
