The Volvo World Golf Challenge 2018 happened recently and it offered Volvo Trucks' customers, business partners and other invited guests participate in a friendly golf tournament and donate to a worthy cause at the same time. This year, the annual golf challenge offered Volvo Trucks golfing enthusiasts an opportunity to compete for the grand prize of a golf trip to Brisbane, Australia where they also get to attend the Brisbane Truck Show in May 2019.
The Volvo World Golf Challenge is held annually and this is its 11th year here in Malaysia. The Golf Challenge provides Volvo Trucks customers and business partners the chance to test their golfing skills against each other, network a little and have some fun while contributing to a worthy cause.
The worthy cause mentioned is where the event also saw sales of official Volvo merchandise to participants and attendees, with all proceeds of the sale going to Palu, Indonesia towards its rebuilding efforts. If you have been reading the news, Palu and Donggala, both located at Central Sulawesi was devastated by a tsunami which was triggered by a 7.7 Richter Scale earthquake on 28 September 2018. The sales of the merchandise was also combined with a bulls-eye competition as well as a private collection among Volvo Trucks Malaysia staff and from the combined effort, a total of RM 10,000 was raised that day which will surely be of a whole lot of benefit to the people of Palu and Donggala.
The Volvo World Golf Challenge 2018 saw over 111 participants and was held at Kota Permai Golf & Country Resort. Mr Andy Hii Sik Kiong from Demeter Logistics Sdn Bhd was crowned as this year’s Volvo World Golf Challenge 2018 winner. Mr Hii won the title with a score of 38 (OCB) which basically guaranteed him the trip to Brisbane, Australia.
2nd place was Mr Simon Wong Chan Wah from ChipSeng Heng Enterprise Sdn Bhd, who received a Titleist trolley bag. 3rd place when to Mr Raymond Yoong from Freight Mark (M) Sdn Bhd who received a Titleist Vokey Wedge.
This year’s challenge also saw the inclusion of a lucky draw prize where one lucky player, Mr Low Seng Chee from Syarikat Low Kim Chuan won the opportunity to join the grand prizewinner alongside Mitch Peden, Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia in Australia. So this was slightly easier to win. Just hope and pray and you do not need golf pro skills but lots of luck to win a trip to Down Under.
Mitch Peden, Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia mentioned that the long running Volvo World Golf Challenge signifies Volvo Trucks' continued commitment to their business partners as well as their commitment to charitable causes. Since it was first held by Volvo Trucks in 1988, the tournament has gathered more than one million golfers around the world. Quite an achievement in terms of golfing and also an achievement in creating good rapport among the people at Volvo Trucks and their customers.
