Something surprising happened today. Bugatti premiered the Chiron Sport in Malaysia. This is the new slightly lightened, sport version of the 1,500 PS super sports car will be presented by Wearnes Automotive, Bugatti’s official dealer partner in Malaysia and also for South East Asia. For the next two days, the Chiron Sport will be presented to customers through exclusive private previews and at an official launch gala this Saturday.
Wearnes Automotive has been an official Bugatti dealer since 2006 and currently undertakes its sales, after-sales and marketing activities for Bugatti Automobiles through its Singapore office. What this means is that all sales inquiries will have to go through Singapore. It does make sense as Bugatti sells something so niche, so exclusive and so expensive in the eyes of the general public - The Chiron Sport has a base price of Euro2.65million before taxes. This is over RM12.5million before you spec it up to your heart's content.
Do also note that everything about this car is mind boggling. The price with taxes could reach nearly RM20million if you specify correctly (or is it incorrectly?). There will be no such thing as trying to get one during this current zero percent GST/SST tax holiday as if you order one now, you could get yours in three years time. So if you buy this, you will be hit with a minimum of RM1.2million worth of Sales taxes if the tax rate is fixed to 10% after 1st September 2018. A bit of useless trivia as if you actually ask the price for this car, it basically means that you most likely cannot afford one.
Bugatti presented the Chiron at the 86th International Geneva Motor Show in 2017. This is the replacement for the already innovative and eye opening Veyron. The Veyron is already famous for setting two speed world records, in 2010 the Super Sport became the fastest production car in the world with a top speed of 431.072 km/h and since 2013, the Grand Sport Vitesse has been the world’s fastest production roadster with a top speed of 408.84 km/h driven with the roof down.
There were altogether 450 Veyron. 300 units of the coupé (Veyron 16.4 and the Super Sport) and 150 roadster versions (the Grand Sport and the Grand Sport Vitesse) were sold. To date, no other carmaker has succeeded in marketing a product that stands for unique top-class technical performance and pure luxury in a comparable price/volume range. Something that combines sheer luxury, comfort and speed.
Now back to the Chiron Sport. This slightly lightweight (1978kg from 1,996kg) has a power output of 1,500 HP, torque of 1,600Nm between 2,000 and 6,000 rpm and a wide variety of technical innovations. The Chiron is not only designed for maximum speed but also meets the highest possible demands in terms of luxury, comfort, everyday drivability and durability. The Chiron combines the best in all these areas which makes it the world’s most complete super sports car and a unique concept.
It is a marvelous piece of engineering and I am glad that there still is a company out there that will push the boundaries of car technology. I mean, where else can you find a car that would just be jogging at 300kmh? Or where else can you find a car with a 500kmh speedometer? It is a marvel in every way as you'd be surprised that the Chiron is actually quite small in size relative to what it can do, like hit 420kmh on a long enough straight.
This hypercar sets new standards as whilst there may be cars that could hit 400kmh, this car does this in comfort. This is the difference when you compare this to a 1,200hp Volkswagen Golf or Audi S4 modified to God knows what. Whilst that could hit 320kmh, you could be dead tired, white knuckled and exhausting trying to rein in the performance. When you buy from the factory with everything in place, things are so refined, so different and so out of this world.
As for the Chiron Sport, it was first previewed at the 88th Geneva International Motor Show a few months ago. The Chiron Sport offers significantly improved handling and even more agility with unchanged power and performance data. The Chiron and the Chiron Sport are built at the company’s headquarters in Molsheim. Only 500 cars in total are to be produced.
“There are a lot of super car enthusiasts in Malaysia who appreciate technological masterpieces of supreme quality and luxury. So we are pleased to present the Chiron Sport to them,” said Mr. Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.
“Since its world premiere earlier this year the Chiron Sport has seen tremendous success with our customers worldwide.”
Mr. Pang Cheong Yan, Managing Director of the Prestige Division of Wearnes Automotive said,
"We are proud to represent Bugatti in Malaysia. Customers here have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of this ultimate super sports car and we are thrilled that the Bugatti Chiron Sport has finally made its way to Malaysia. We are delighted to bring the brand closer to customers in Malaysia with this presentation and look forward to meeting them.”
Oh, one final thing. The car that you see here is already spoken for. Amazing isn't it?
Note that the car is basically constructed of carbon fiber. Even the wiper arms are carbon. What is red paint is also carbon fiber underneath.
